First time poster, unfortunately with a problem!
I just got my 2007 4runner a few months ago. Love the truck! Unfortunately I was in an accident when a drunk driver hit me head on in a snow storm a few weeks ago. We hit in a corner, and then spun around and my back quarter hit a tree.
I got my truck back from a reputable shop in town the other day. There is a strange sound coming from the rear wheel (the quarter that hit the tree). It is sort of a whirring sound, similar to when a wheel bearing is going. The tires are brand new, no vibration whatsoever in the ride or when I apply the brakes. It is just a faint whirring sound. It speeds up and slows down with the car.
I spoke to the guy that repaired the car, and despite the 12 grand repair bill, I can tell he is unwilling to help. I know I can go after him, but he is out of town, and frankly if it is something I can figure out myself I would rather just fix it. I will go after him if it is something over 500 bucks, otherwise it isn't worth it. The guy that did the repairs is saying that since there was no impact to any of the wheels (which is true), there should be no problem with them or the driveline as a result of the accident. It makes partial sense, but it was a pretty strange coincidence that this problem came up right when I got the truck back. Also a little weird for any of these problems to come up with truck with 60K on the ODO.
Anyone have any ideas? It sounds like when a bearing went on my old car after it had been sitting for a while, but I jacked it up and there is no play in the wheel. Someone suggested maybe a bent axle, but there is no vibration in the truck which is what I would expect from a bent axle.
