Just wondering if anyone is interested in the new Tundra thats supposedly going to be reveiled at the Chicago auto show. I love my 4Runner, but I had a truck for 7 years. After seeing the Tacoma I'm very interested in the new Tundra.

New Tundra

I live in San Antonio which will build the new tundra. I also am in Real Estate and have sold several of the Toyo managers. They have said the new Tundra is the size of an F250 almost. They said the CEO of Toyo had a movie made about Texas and that the F150/250 is what he wants to take on. So to answer your question, yes I am excited. I just hope they can keep Toyota quality.

To truely compete with the F250 I hope Toyota has made plans to make a diesel engine available at some point.
If they do that, I know some F250 owners who will be more than happy to buy a Tundra.

My uncle is one of them. He had a 2nd gen 4runner, and sold it to buy the F250 to tow a trailer. He told me the day Toyota has a diesel, the f250 goes for sale.

Somehow I doubt that it will be the size of the F-250. I would be its around the size of the F-150, and later on they will build larger versions based on that platform. Just a guess though:)

I'm just really interested in the hybrid version.... I know its not going to get 40mpg, but i'll settle for 25!!!

I filled my tank up today with regular and it was $50. That gets kind of old. HOWEVER, I think the 4runner is worth it.

I heard the term diesel thrown around and the report i read said no hybrid (can't get it to work the way they want it to) so i am excited about the new Tundra..

As per new car intro a few months ago, a hybrid option was to be offered and no diesel......but I guess we'll see.

nh00gts......what report did you read that said the hybrid version was not working out??

I believe I read it on autoblog.com. I have been trying to find the article ever since I posted so i could link to it but i can't seem to remember where I found it. All the article basically said was that they aren't meeting the power and towing expectations they had set for themselves with a hybrid and are looking towards the possibility of a diesel. I was also informed by a local Toyota dealership that a diesel was possibly in the new version along with a plow prep package of some sort.

If Toyota hopes to compete with Ford, etc. they are going to have to produce a Tundra that can Tow, Haul, Plow, get better mileage than a gas V8 and be reliable. That is what the work truck market demands. If Toyota is serious about competing they will produce a Tundra that can do that and more.

If Toyota cannot produce a hybrid Tundra that can tow at least 7,000 lbs (or more) then they might be wise to go with a diesel until they can solve their hybrid/towing issues.
