The lockable diff and water proof seats aren't a HUGE deal. And like I said the radio will be switched out and so will the suspension (Icons or some sort of C/O) so those are worthless.Or...I guess I could just go lowball the local dealer to me that has a V8 SE on the lot. But I was trying to avoid black seats and the V8. Hmmmmm...
Oh...one last question as you seem to know these trucks pretty darn well. Do you know if I could even use the same airbag if I was to swap wheels? They both have audio controls and are both the same shade of black. I wouldn't see why not right?

Regarding the color, to be absolutly sure you cannot get salsa on the TE, you should goto the dealer now and ask to order one, they should be able to see if it would go through the system.
Like I said my info is from the official Toyota Press Release. That said it can on rare occasion be incorrect. Most recently & notably was a case in which a buyer gave up the option to purchase a 2007 for below invoice and waited for a 2008, based soley on info straight from a Toyota press release that said the 2008 4R's would have active headrests. Said buyer purchased the 08 and subequently got in an accident to find out that the active headrests were not there. The active headrests were also listed in the official Toyota brochure until brought to their attention by this buyer.

Thanks J.A. I appreciate all your help. Yeah, I tried calling one of the dealers yesterday about that and it was like talking to a wall. Oh well....might have to put the purchase on hold for a couple months anyway as I'm trying to get into another house and don't need the 4Runner on the credit report. Maybe in a couple months and then the dealer with the two V6 4WD in SR with tan, the one with the V6 4WD with gray, and the other with the V8 SE will come down quite a bit!

Nope, think of a special order from Toyota as getting a vehicle with the options and configuration you want that the dealer doesn't normally have. You can pick and choose your options that's available for that trim, but you cannot get an option that's not available to that model, like X-REAS on a SR5 or rear air suspension on any model but a V8 Limited. Also, prerequistes must be met, such as in 2006, to get the rear seat DVD entertainment system, it must have moonroof. So you can't special order for the DVD entertainment system without getting the moonroof.

I believe J.E. as he seems VERY VERY knowledgeable. So...I'm hoping after this house loan thing comes thru I can go into the dealer that has the V8 SE in Salsa Red and lowball the hell out of them. Being if the loan goes thru I'll be moving MUCH MUCH closer to my job and the gas useage won't matter as much. Other wise I'll be searching down a V6 SR5 with tan or gray interior and swapping out the steps for step bars (westin).

i'm confused by this... if this is true, then the 16" TRD wheels for the FJ have the same backspacing as this wheel for the 4Runner Trail Edition, correct? if so, that means that the TRD FJ wheels will fit any of the 4Runners with the larger brake calipers: Sport Edition, Limited, and/or SR5 ?05Rrunner said:

i've checked: both rims are a 15 mm backspace/offset, i believe...
15mm is enough to clear the large(r) calipers on the 4runners?

kinda answering my own question, but it seems like the 16" wheels (4R Trail Edition -AND/OR- FJ TRD) WON'T fit on a Limited w/the larger brake calipers. the Trail Edition 4runner must have the smaller brakes... just like all the other SR5s out there.
if anyone has any experience/information to the contrary, i'd love to hear it. but i get the sense that, much as i'd like the 16" wheels w/15mm offset to work, it just won't happen.

Thus, the 2009 4runner SR5 with Trail Edition Package will have the SR5 brakes...because it is a SR5!!!!!!!! Once again, the Trail Edition is NOT available on Sport Edition nor Limited models. The Package itself says nothing about bigger brakes. This is quite clear in the brochure.
I hope that this settles the issue once and for all...all this speculation is just confusing people.

How come it doesn't mention anywhere in the press release on the 09 4Runners what packages are available with what colors? Would be nice to know for a "fact" that Salsa Red isn't available in the TE package.

I'm with you on that... if Toyota really wanted to increase the 4runner's offroad cred and start to work towards improving its gas mileage they would offer a 6-speed manual. After all, Toyota altready has such a tranny mated to the 4.0 in the FJ. Why not offer it in the 4Runner???
I live in a very hilly city (SF) yet still would dearly love to drive a stick cuz it's *real* driving
