2010/11 Factory Mud Flaps

Man that sucks. I had a copy of the instructions but I think I tossed them already, othewise I would have scanned them and emailed them to you.

It is pretty straight forward but there are two note worthy items that I do recall from the instructions.

1. Not all of the clips are the same size. If you line them all up there will be two that are longer then the rest. Those go on the front wheel wells on the lowest hole to the outside. Also when placing the clips make sure you put the side with the lip on the inside of the panel.

2. The holes you need to drill have to be 3/32 according to the instructions.

Also FYI the push pins for the rear are a pain, or at least they were for me.

Due to the rain I have only installed the two back ones and broke both pastic push pins. Anybody know the part number so I can order replacements.

And I did not notice that two clips are longer. Now I wonder if I used them on the back. Ugg.

The bag that had 4(or 6 if I remember) clips are for the rear. The bag that has 2 are for the front.

Couple of questions since I'm a little confused.

1) Are these the Canadian running boards you all are installing or the US ones?

2) Does all this apply for the SR5 as well (I notice most of you are doing this on a limited).

Are the push pins different? I had some left over on the backs since the screws replaced them. I broke one, but just used another.

I'm talking about the ones on the bottom - one on each side of the rear. The pin part is grey on my limited.

I thought of maybe using one of the black ones removed from inside the wheel well but the pins seem to have expanded into the holder and not sure if they can be removed or not. The black ones also seem smaller but to be honest I did not spend much time looking at them as I could not easily separate them.

I truly suspect that the pictures posted of mudflaps and running boards are not OEM. Oem is not defined by buying at a dealership. The Southern States Toyota dealerships sell thier own running boards.

My Running Boards are OEM (SE PA) and while I have not installed the fronts yet I have hand fitted them and see no reason they would not fit. Although I think, like posted before, the boards should be moved back for installation.

I responded via PM, but for others my running boards are the US Toyota OEM ones PT925-89100 bought in Utah at a Toyota dealership, NOT THE SOUTH EAST ones and NOT CANADIAN ONES. The South East ones may be the same... and work as well. (I suspect that they are the same). Though I am in Canada I have a US truck.. bought in Utah (from a non Toyota dealer).

Those rear large pushpins are the only really tricky part, I used a small flat thin prytool and flathead screwdriver to work the center of the pin loose by about 1/8" then it can be wiggled out completely. One side was very stubborn and the other popped out easily. I also pushed down from the top by reaching in the opening after the inner panel pins are removed. Applied some painters tape to protect the paint from tools.

Thanks for the help. I got the front ones on this morning. I suppose pretty self explanatory once I got everything apart and lined up the guards on the 4Runner. Of course I received the instx after they were on, but good to know I did it right.

I do like it much better without the running boards, but I'm sure there are those that like it the other way around.

I purchased my T4R brand new and it came with the running boards. At the dealer in the parts department, they only have one type of running board for 5th gen which are the ones shown in my post. I purchased the mud flaps from Sparks Toyota. So as far as I know everything is OEM on my T4R.

Not sure how else to convince you. I'm in FL, but if you look at my pics, they are the same running boards on Terminators rig. And we both have pics of OEM mud flaps on a 5th gen with "OEM" running boards.

husky vs oem

Last summer I installed the Husky mudflaps. At the time I beleive they were the best option available on the market. Today I installed the Toyota mud flaps. I do prefer the toyota mudflaps as they fit more securely and are a little smaller then the Husky's. The toyota mud flaps have an extra screw or pin on the back side that really makes a difference. I also measured teh ground clearence - 7.5 inches in the front and 10 in the back.
I do have the Husky mudflaps for sale - they are in great shape, no scratches on the outside and minor road stuff dings on the inside - $35 with free shipping if anyone is interested.
I also scratched on of my new toyota flaps during the install with the drill - front passenger side. So I ordered a new set. If any of you pull an oops like me I will have both rear and the driver front available for sale in about a week - say $25 each and free shipping if you need one.
I attached two photo's of the Husky and toyota mud flaps next to each other so if your considering which one to buy you can see the design and size difference.
