It's basically a requirement to install these 2 pieces together! Not a sealant, just a lubricant.

Everything Saker said is spot on of course when it comes to the silicone usage. In fact we even heated the red rubber connection boot up a little to help it on. It really is a tight fit but the silicone will help slip it on as you twist it on.

Damn it....you people cost me SO MUCH MONEY!!! I just ordered everything. I'm going to continue using my oiled K&N filter element. I've been running them in all my cars since 1991 and I've never had an issue.

How did you get that deal? They list it at over $400!

Cheapest I found was $368 so far from EB Toyota Parts...

Yeah the 07-09 FJ had a different style CAI than the 10-14 FJ. The 10-14 FJ CAI is the one that fits the 10-present 4Runners. The other CAI is what fits the 03-09 4Runners :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Shortly I will be installing on a 2016 TRDPro. Same motor and body so it should be the same for your SR5.

No changes from my 14' to your 16'.....it'll fit

Took delivery of my TRD CAI today. Installed it in a couple hours with out much instructions. Very straight forward. I did fight with the one coupling. Silicone spray barely helped me. Would have been easier if I had an extra set of hands lol. Here's photos.

The TRD looks great but why not an aftermarket like AFE or Volant? They offer closed CAI for 5th gen's. Could someone educate me on the differences please.

I cannot speak to design or function of the other CAI's you mentioned, but when at the dealership the other day (for a HU issue), I asked the head tech while he had the hood up....
'Hey PK, by my installing that TRD CAI, that shouldn't cause me any possible warranty issues, should it?"
His response was, "No, it's made by Toyota for these trucks."

I tried to look into AFE, but was told that they can't ship to California and it may not pass smog inspection. The TRD one was not a problem.

If I'm not mistaken, AFE did the engineering and design for Toyota's TRD labeled one.

Fml. Ordered all the correct parts and then the box that should have the lower portion comes with the TRD airbox lid for an entirely different vehicle....and the box top for the 4runner intake is all scuffed up.

They better pay return shipping and not charge me restocking.

Your photo is showing the stock intake tube. That gets replaced with the TRD parts (#6 below):
