2010 4Runner Base Model Pricing

I don't get it. Why offer the a 4 cylinder engine. Will a paltry $1,675 difference in price from the base SR5 V6 2WD model cause hordes of customer to flock to their nearest Toyota dealer because the $27,500 price point magically makes the 4Runner affordable? For $1,675 less you get 1 extra MPG in fuel economy, 107 less horsepower, and 89 less lbs-ft torque.

Was it worth all the R&D dollars Toyota spent putting a 4 cylinder engine into the new 4Runner? Does Toyota think that they will sell more 4 cylinder 4Runners then V8 4Runners if they had put their new 4.6L V8 with Dual VVTi into the 2010 Runner? I just don't get it.

Do you realize that the S in MSRP means "Suggested"? There's nothing to indicate that these will be the prices you see on the lot or that the real difference in value between the 4 and 6 is $1675. Wait until some invoice and true sticker pricing comes out.

As I mentioned in another thread, the 3.4 V6 in the 3rd gen made 183hp/217ft-lb. in torque. People said that engine was underpowered in a lighter SUV. I'm going to say this 4-banger is going to be a special order and no one will buy it after a test drive. 4-bangers in a truck application or truck base SUV is damn joke. Even Honda doesn't offer a 4-cyl in their fake truck, the Ridgeline.

Though when the 4th gen debut, it was V8 that was available in the tail end of 2002. The V6 wasn't available until Jan 2003 from what I recall on Toyota.com.
