2010 Limited Fuel Capacity

Hello all, long time lurker. This is a great forum! I just ran the first tank of fuel through my 4R just trying to understand the capacities and I thought I'd share and at the same time ask a question. I filled the tank and intentionally reset the range indicator. When the range indicator read 0 miles and the fuel gauge was on Empty I was within 1/4 mile of a gas station and filled up. The fill up took 21.1 gallons. I assume that since the manual says the tank capacity is 23 gallons that I have 1.9 gallons remaining when the gauge reads E. Also the MPG gauge said I was getting 17.1 MPG, but the manual calculation came out to 16.99. I've seen others on the board getting close to 20. My driving is mostly freeway at 75 mph. I live in AZ so the AC is always blowing hard.

That is what about what I come up with too. The yellow fuel light comes on when you have approx. 3 gallons left and when the the range reads 0 I have about 2 gallons left.

I just recently ran it 20 miles past the 0 on the fuel range gauge because I couldn't find a gas station. I was swettin it but it took only 21.7 gallons when I filled up.

Your gas mileage should get better as the engine breaks in.Some are getting great mileage right off the bat and some get better as the engine breaks in more. The engine seems to get alot stronger too ,at least mine did.

I hear you on that AC. I'm L.A. and it is indispensable — AZ is HOT.

Not sure about reserve capacity in the tank, I never let it get to 1/4. As for mileage, I have been getting 20.2 to 21.0. On a recent trip to Las Vegas Nevada with the AC on the entire trip I got 20.5mpg at 75 to 80mph. My wife however gets much worse mileage because she takes off from a dead stop with gusto.

I have about the same story as the OP on my SR5. On my first full fill-up (with 1200 on the odometer) I let it go down to E. My mileage since the previous fill-up was 401mi. Range had been 0 for a few miles. The gauge said avg MPG reading was 19.0. I filled it with 20.8 gals. Light had come on at 373 miles.

I assume my mpg will improve over time as it wears in. Anyone know how much improvement to expect?

I've noticed running the A/C has dropped mine this summer. Most of my drives are short so the A/C is usually running hard to cool the 4R.
