Motor Trend--not to worry

And here I always thought that with Motor Trend going off-road meant leaving the street for the parking lot.
They did have good things to say about the 4Runner, it was just not their style of vehicle. Thats why we have this forum.

I always thought that MT's main criterion was how much the manufacturer spent on advertising in their magazine.

That is actually very true throughout the magazine industry.

You can point out very minor shortcomings when reviewing a product for a major advertiser, but don't make them look bad. I've seen it don't, editors DO take advertising into account and will delete stuff from an article.

I think MT is a bit less bias than Car and Driver. BMW and Honda always win in C&D.

Personally, I think that MT is generally very uncritical of most cars they review. Car and Driver actually criticizes a car now and then.
