The 5th gen has a USB port. Most likely poolzer is using a USB bus powered harddrive similar to the Western Digital Passport or any 2.5" laptop based external harddrive.

Its a trail about 40 miles SW of Fallon NEvada called the Rawhide Mining District. There are miles and miles of trails from well maintained dirt and gravel roads to inclines, sand bars and other crazy areas that I wont take my LE.
Yup, the 5th gen has a usb port. Most 2.5 drives now a days cant convert to fat32 due to win 7 so you have to convert them either in xp or grab a 3rd party program to do it. The nav screen cues in the folders and files and wah la, 10k plus songs, comedy and audio books at your finger tips. Can also blue tooth a phone or mp3 player up and use the steering wheel buttons to access music that way.
