2012 Tinting

I just got a limited 2012 and I'm looking to get the windows tinted. I normally put my cars to 15 or 20% (depending on the dealer) for all windows (including sunroof), other than the windshield. I would like to have the same thing on my t4r. On a different thread people mentioned that if you do the fronts in 20% they'll match, but I've been looking through my rears and they're clearly not 20%.

What percentage should I put the rears (and hatch) so that they look the same as 20% in the front? Should I put 20% on them, or 35%, or...? I have two goals; 1) looks like all windows have the same tint from outside, and 2) looks like 20% tint while looking out from inside.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks a lot

I just put privacy over all the rears and 20% on the fronts with a privacy window strip. In most light, they all look completely black. I tend to like my windows to where people cannot see in and the AZ sun isn't able to heat it up too much.

Does the privacy you mention mean 35%? It looks like if the actual glass is 28-30% (as others have mentioned), then adding 35% to that will get it down pretty dark.

I prefer dark as well, but want them to match too. :P

It still depends on you on what do you think fits on you.For me I want a little dark inside so that privacy will remain.

I had 20% 3M tint put on the front windows and 50% 3M on the entire front windshield. Matches perfectly when looking from the outside. From the inside, the factory tint looks a little bit lighter than the tint I had installed. Doesn't really bother me as long as it looks good from the outside and prevents people from seeing inside.

I got 35% the day after I picked mine up, was going to get 50% but I decided it would be too dark at night. there is a photo in my garage.

I think you have it mixed up. The lower the %, the darker it is. I believe 5% would be the darkest like limo tint, and 80-85% (like Llumar Air Blue) would be the lightest.

Edit:
I see that your garage says 65%.

Just got mine done this morning. 15% on every window to include sunroof. Looks amazing and I think matches perfectly. Paid $240 total in Virginia. Will post pics soon

20% on my fronts and it matches the rear... or at least it appears that way on a black truck from the exterior. From the inside the rear windows are much clearer to look though. Pretty much what bigslimdog said:

bigslimdog: Did you have someone install the 50% front tint? Mind if I ask how much that costs? I'm thinking about putting a heat blocking film on the sun roof, rear windows, and possible the windshield. Thanks

Since I see you're in the Baltimore area, I'd recommend D&L Tinting. They aren't the cheapest around but I have had 3 vehicles done by them and have been extremely happy with all 3. Lifetime warranty on the tint as well. They charged me $100 to do the front windshield.

50% on the windshield gives you a little added privacy from the front and extra protection from UV rays for your interior.

The brightness of the rears was bothering me, as I'm used to much smaller cars (Mini's, etc) with 15-20% tint all around (including sunroofs). So I decided to put 20% all around (including sunroof) and I'll deal with the rears being a bit darker. I've only seen my truck at night (just got it back with tint tonight), the fronts do look similar to the stock rears (i.e. you can see through them), but my rears block most everything from outside. It's not too much either, as the visibility was great for driving around tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions.
