My wife and I have had our 2013 4Runner Limited for 2 weeks now and we absolutely love it. We looked at quite a few other SUVs (VW Touareg, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Toyota Highlander) and we simply felts that the 4Runner gave us the best bang for the buck. My wife definitely wanted a "truck" feel, and the 4Runner has us literally looking down on many other SUVs out there.
Prior to buying the 2014 4R we had a 2004 Honda Pilot and when I compared the size numbers between the vehicles (these numbers aren't accurate to the decimal point, but you get the idea), the 4Runner is within an inch of the Pilot in length, 3" narrower than our old Pilot, the cargo capacity was 1 cubic foot smaller in the 4Runner and the were within an inch of each other in height. We were shocked at the numbers, because the 4Runner felt so much bigger when we test drove it, but knowing the numbers made us a lot less nervous about pulling into the garage the same way we did with the old vehicle.
The biggest issue with the new 4Runner was step-in height. We're shorter people, so it was a big climb up until our running boards arrived and I got them bolted on. Once we installed those, even our 3yr old is able to climb up into the truck on her own.
My favorite feature that was a surprise to me is the back-up camera. Most of the other SUVs we drove had back-up cameras on them as well, but the one on the 4Runner is awesome!! You can literally see the rear license plate at the bottom of the screen, the hitch cover sticking out (so super easy to hook-up a trailer) and the field of view is excellent from side to side on back.
