Lots of other people on this site share the same opinion about the 5th Gen's severe lack of power.
I've been here for over a year, active nearly every day, this is the first time I've seen anyone use the word "severe". I think almost every 5th gen owner will tell you that the 4.0L dual vvti v6 in the 5th's has plenty of power.
Here's the 5th gen engine specs:
4.0L v6 DOHC 24 valve Dual VVT-i - 270 hp @ 5600 rpm...278 lb-ft torque @ 4400 rpm
Here's the 4th gen engine specs for comparison:
4.0L v6 VVT-i - 236hp @ 5200rpm...266lb-ft torque @ 4000rpm
4.0L v6 Dual VVT-i - 254 hp @ 5000rpm...270 lb-ft torque @ 4000rpm
4.7L v8 VVT-i - 271 hp @ 4800rpm and 306 lb·ft @ 3400 rpm.
The 03-04 version of the v8's were 235hp and 320lb-ft
As you can see the 5th's are nearly equal to the 4.7l v8 in the 4th's.
I'm guessing you are only hearing these kind of comments in the 5th gen bash threads that seem to populate most of the other generations sections.
