That is strange. Mine does not have automatic lights. Does yours? Because with the switch on mine came on as soon as I started the engine a couple days ago. I tried several different variations to see what did what.

No automatic headlights either. Makes me curious now. I'll go test it out in a bit.

How to increase torque or power?

Hello All, I own a Tacoma double cab 4x4 limited edition 2013 and just bought a 4 Runner sr5, but I am very disappointed with the car, it is very lazy. Compared to the Tacoma it would not start after a complete stop. After 35 or 40 miles they work the same. How can I improve the torque or the engine power?

Tacoma and 4 runner are supposed to have same engine and gear box buy maybe something in the transmission? I feel the 4 runner is too heavy and slow.

In terms of HP per ton and torque they are almost identical. 113.7 hp/ton for the 4runner 111.8 hp/ton for the tacoma. 278 lbft torque for 4runner 266 lbft for the tacoma. They should drive very similar. Toyotas are not fast cars, in fact they are damn slow compared to other suvs/trucks out there but these two should be about the exact same

from my understanding you are buying them for durability and off-road prowess. that's what I can gather from my limited research. I also have a '97 sr5 4x4 and that was around $30k back in '96. Guess what? It still runs strong!

BTW, per CR, the Tacoma is 2.8 to 30, 7.9 to 60, 5.4 from 45 to 65, 16.3 in the 1/4mi @ 85.8mph.

Silly question but, you guys aren't talking about the Daytime Running Lights are you? You can leave that on and it comes on when you start the car.

My daytime running lights in my 14 'LE work exactly as they did in my '08 UR. They come on as soon as the engine is turned on and the parking brake is released. I always use the parking brake so mine don't come on until I release the brake.

What should I do when I push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and it still is a slug right of the line? Taking off from a stop on step hills this thing is a slug floor boarded or not. Once it get moving it is ok and for people living in flat parts of the country it maybe ok. This thing is in serious need of some lower gears and more low end torque. My wife keeps thinking there is something wrong with it as she is used to driving my old 4runner.

Once it get moving it is ok and for people living in flat parts of the country it maybe ok. This thing is in serious need of some lower gears and more low end torque. My wife keeps thinking there is something wrong with it as she is used to driving my old 4runner.

Hmm, maybe try punching it a bit more? If you press lightly on the gas at first then press down hard it does bog. But I find if I punch the peddle from a stop it lurches forward and will even chirp the wheels going around a corner from a stop, then delays up shifting a lot longer. And I don't mean completely floor it I just push it about half way but quickly...

I do not want that big of a vehicle. Funny thing is I just rode in my neighbors 2008 tundra with 140k miles on it yesterday pulling 2 jet skis down to the lake. That thing is so smooth, quiet and powerful is makes my new 4runner seem like a low rent rental car. Still happy with my new 4runner other than the low speed engine torque and excessive drivetrain noise. I added more sound deadner today. I will have to see if it helps quiet this thing down.

I came from an 05 V8 4runner to a 2011 Tacoma.

I feel the same way, the 4.0L V6 is a dog IMO.
