2014+ front end conversion -lets get this done!

project: convert 2010-2013 front end to 2014+

I know this has been covered many times. I know someone has done it. What I dont know is if someone has done the entire bumper headlight conversion. From what i've seen and heard its only been done through a headlight conversion with a metal bumper.

A long with a handful of people on this thread I was one of the few that did the trail conversion to my 2011 sr5. I really love the look of the trdpro front end and would like to talke this conversion.

with that said, I would like to gather some information from those that can help. it seems that the hood and fenders all lign up. im sure there are various brackets inside for the headlight and front bumper that are needed. do the fender flares lign up? even more difficult do the 2011 trail fender flares lign up? Any info would help with this conversion.

you're probably asking why? I love the trdpro front end and would like that.
why not just go with a metal bumper? I may be with the minority on this one but I don't do any heavy offroading to need a metal bumper and at the momment i and again, I really love the stock look of the trdpro front end.
why not just buy a TRDpro? because I dont have that kind of money. lol

IMO, the 2010-2013 TE front end looks pretty damn cool. Leave it! It already has and will have that cool early 2010's retro look.... :bounce:
 
I wish I had the 2013- front end on mine and the Trail wheels from that ERA..everything else stay the same. I wonder how hard a backwards refit would be.
 
I drooled over your 4runner for years until I got mine, don't change a thing. I think you have the best looking 4runner on the site, as it has the "retro" look down just right (better when you had the round lights up top, not sure if those are still there)

However your truck, good luck with the conversion
 
thanks fellas, I would still keep my current front end just in case I have a change of heart. However, I'm currently drooling over that trdpro front end.
 
So I am assuming that if a 2014+ would fit yours than your front end would fit mine... Super White did not come around until 2014+ right as yours is blizzard pearl.

What type of cost do you expect? I would think it would be no less than 2k but to be honest I have NO idea. :)

I'm hoping to spend under 2k by sourcing used bumpers and headlights. Ive seen the bumpers go for 200-350 on eBay and headlights about 200.
 
You'd have to have the front bumper painted right? I don't think they ship body parts painted but I could be wrong. And I believe Blizzard is only available on the limited these days.

Yeah, it would have to be painted. My Trail front and rear bumper had to be painted the blizzard pearl as well.
 
I've not looked that closely at 10-13 Trail bumpers and grills but I'm assuming that there's no real way to incorporate the TRD Pro garnish onto a Pre '14 right? Pretty much have to swap out everything from lights, grill inserts and bumper components to make it work?

And what about fender liners and the liner beneath the bumper? I'm assuming these will not mate/match up either?

not that I know of. however, I did message the person mentioned above that has successfully done the complete swap. He said the swap was a complete bolt on and the only difficult part was the headlight wiring. good news for me! now Im going to need to look closely at my fender flares and see how it matches to the contour of the 2014 bumper.
 
That's ironic, I love the 2010-13 trail front ends. If it wasn't for the loss of projectors and cash I'd love to swap. Don't forget to look on CL too. I picked up a near new 2016 OEM bumper with trail valance for 140.
 
I have been wanting to do this for a while and here is some of the info I have come up with.

See sig for my runners details.

I want an off road bumper and particularly like the pelfreybuilt 2014+ in steel. I plan on eventually ordering one when I have some money again.

This bumper among a few others does not require cutting an re-using the front bumper fascia, so it would limit the amount of money needing to be spent on plastic parts.

I plan on ordering aftermarket replacement 2014+ headlight assemblies (I have the tails and have had no issues) from some place like rockauto, they can be obtained fairly cheap compared to OE ones. I can easily take care of any wiring issues.

Headlights
TYC 20951200 L ~$129
TYC 20951100 R ~$129

Other than the headlight assemblies, some on the fly wiring, and the bumper I would need to get something to replace the upper grill. I have found 2 ways of doing this.

One would be buying the the TRD Pro grill, grill surround, and Bracket here..

Grill parts

Grill PZ327-35053 ~$172
White Surround (White,Black, or TRD red are available) PZ327-35054-A0 ~$143
Bracket PZ327-35701 ~$29

The second Option would be to buy a color coded assembly..

I also plan on replacing the rear bumper, and putting on rockers and wheel trim from a TE.
 
So will you have to replace the sub-reinforcement and the energy absorber as they look different between years.. however on the Toyota sites I have scoured I cannot see where anyone sells the energy absorber.

Exactly. Once I am done paying for this beast I may actually look into putting a 2013 Trail front end on mine with projector mod?
