2014 LED tail lights

Whomever wants to take charge of buying and testing, just start a post here with a list of all our names that wish to contribute. As more people join add a new post with the updated list of usernames. That way everyone knows who and how many the tally is up to and whether more need to contribute or not. It is a pretty small request pool so it shouldn't be difficult to keep track of. It works well I have seen it done before.

So far it looks like:

  1. jrandom
  2. Bimrunner
  3. Jim82

I'll do it...I'll volunteer. I don't have a problem with just buying one and then the other after the holidays. This would involve me having to return the part on my lunch break if it doesn't fit. A total of 5 people commiting to $10.00 ea. would be good and 1 or 2 additional as backup would be great. If I get the part, I will post detailed pics. of the part. If it works, I will also post pics of it on my '12 SR5 both during the day and at night. So far it looks like I can count on:

1) Jrandon
2) Bimrunner
3)Jim82

Easiest way to find out is by someone that works at a Toyota dealership. I'm sure there are a few 10-13's on most lots. If anybody here knows a buddy that works at one, have him try it AT the dealership for free. Easy remove and replace. If I knew anybody, I'd buy him his fave beer for the trouble.

had a guy do this at the dealer but the two 14's he had on the lot were already gone when he went to look. This was Earl Stewart Toyota.

My dealer won't do that. They just can't go to the lot and take of parts to see if they'll fit on another model. If I were negotiating a deal on a new 4R and I found out that the tail lamps on the model I wanted were removed for "test fitting" I'd use that as an excuse to reduce the price.

All i was asking him to do was remove the plastic access door and look at the connections. He was more than willing to as he has a 2011 and was interested in the swap as well.

I hear ya. It's just that I asked last week and the dude reacted as if I asked to sleep with his sister or something. If more people commit their $10.00 I can make this happen this week and the question will be answered once and for all.

Looking at side by side pictures of the two tall lights, I can guarantee that the new light will fit. I bet the only difference is the fuse used. I would love to do the swap but the current price per light is absurd. Anything above $200 per light is unjustifiable in my book. Maybe next year.

Physically they will fit. The question is more in regard to the connections.

Personally I think they will plug right in with zero modifications. As others and I have said before Toyota is too smart to require a change of a wiring harness or even add a strep in assembly if they dont have to.

Guess we will find out soon enough.

Looks like I'm pretty much covered as far as the restock fee. I'll order ONE tail lamp this morning and it will be here tomorrow before noon. Don't know if I should post the outcome on this thread or start a new one. Thanks to:

1) Jrandon
2) Bimrunner
3) Jim82
4) diverscale (who has commited up to $20.00)

I wouldn't be doing this w/o the assistance of those 4 gentlemen.

can't wait to see the results.

if they fit, next step will be to find a pair at a reasonable price :)

My friend just bought a new trail. I have a 2010. I'll ask him if I can try and see if they plug up this weekend? I think we're going fishing so... Maybe it'll work out.

Just got a call from the dealer and the tail lamp will NOT be in today. He says that most likely it will be in tomorrow and there is a chance that it may come in on Saturday. Sounds like it had to be shipped in from far away and there were no '14 tail lamps even remotely close to Kalifornia. Sorry folks...

Just got a call from the dealer. The tail lamp is in and scheduled for delivery to me early this afternoon!!! I will post the outcome in a new thread today. Stay tuned...
