2014 LED tail lights

I have a 2013 4 Runner Limited and just picked up the 14' Taillights from the Toyota dealer. The sizing of the lights are slightly slimmer and less bulky than the original but they do fit right in. The only problem is that the plugs are different and are NOT plug n play. Ive also purchased a light socket fitting for the 14' but It came without the harness so I couldn't even hotwire it if I wanted to.

Any input/suggestions would be nice. The taillights are really sweet and I would love to have them installed and not returned.

This was the $9 plug that I purchased, it didn't come with any wiring harness so i'm stuck trying to figure something out.

It doesn't look the same, I am guessing they gave you the wrong part.

I purchased the female plug 90980-10797. I tried to order the suggested harness : 81555/81565 but they said the part no. wasn't good. still trying

Ahh. Hmm that's is strange, I hope it gets sorted, I know a lot of us are still curious to see this work

That plug will not work. Tell your parts guy to bring up a schematic of the tail lamp section on a '14 When he does, the harnesses in the schematic will come up. The schematic shows the short number as opposed to the long. When he brings up the schematic and clicks on the short number he will then be switched to another screen that will give him the long number. The harness you need has a 5 pin connector on one end and a 3 pin connector on the other. The end with the 3 pin connector has 2 light bulb sockets as well. This is the side that plugs into the '14 tail lamp. The harnesses are right and left specific. Hence the different part #'s. Let me know if I can help.

Thank you N2GLOCK. I will check with my parts guy. With the correct harness, I should be able to just plug in correct? or would I still need to hotwire the original harness. Is there a different electrical frequency with the newer tail ight being LED?

It should be a plug in deal only. I'd be shocked if you had to hotwire this at all. As far as the LED goes, I couldn't answer that for you. I don't know if that sub-harness has some sort of resistor built into it or not. I'm not that well versed on LED's. I've heard of people adding LED's to their vehicles and then having issues with the turn indicators flashing rapidly as if a light bulb was burnt out. It'll just be a trial and error kinda thing.

My Toyota parts guy is still having a hard time finding the suggested harness 81555/81565. He's sent me the schematics below and It doesn't list the harness. I'll send an update once he looks into it. Attached is the part's list that he has.

I would show him a pic of the schematic that ip posted in this thread. I believe that it's on the 2nd or 3rd page. I know it exists. I was quoted a price of $19.50 per side w/ a wait of about 2-3 days. If all else fails, I will get you the long part #'s on Friday as I'll be @ work.

Left= 81561-35390

harness 2014

rh 81555
lh 81565

then RH 81555-35400 (maybe)
then LH 81565-35390 (maybe)

google these numbers they come as a Toyota rear harness about $20, but I can't tell the year and model,,

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. I just checked with the dealer and at first his computer showed 2 different part #'s for the sub-harnesses. Then he discovered that both supersede into one. The part # for both sides is 81555-35400

Mission accomplished. All you need to install the 2014 tail lights on a 2013 and below model is a wiring harness (1 for each side) part number 8155535400 everything else is replacing the originals with the 2014 tail light assemblies.
