2014 low fuel light questions

Ran a test to see when mine would come on:
Just above the "E", Took 19 gals to fill.

Not surprisingly, it appears that Toyota programed our "range" projection to allow a bit of buffer. I like it that way. If my "range" says 50 miles, I would like to think that I have 50 miles to look for a gas station, not 50 miles until it DROPS DEAD.

I've recorded almost every time I've filled up with the gas light on...

Just had this yesterday on my way home from Seattle. Light comes on exactly when the computer says my range is zero miles.

I've driven 20+ miles after it hit zero in the past so no worries. I get to the station off I-5 to fill up. it will only take 20.3 gallons.

It's self serve in WA, so I try to top it off and it almost spills over the top. So I had 3 more gallons , I could have easily gone another 60-70 miles before filling up.

Just curious - what happens after the cruise range reads Zero? Does the range begin displaying negative numbers like a digital countdown timer, or just stay at zero?

I have noticed that when I drive in reverse, the digital display will show the mph in positive digits, and so will the speedometer.

I was curious too, that's one of the reasons I did it the first time, i wanted to see!!
