I had a second battery installed in my 06 for awhile and then when I purchased my 2014 I wanted to bring the setup over to the new truck. On previous 5th generations, most people were able to install the battery in front of the air intake, but at some point Toyota added some extra components in this area that make installation more difficult due to relocation of these components.
This left the the area behind the intake. I found this to be an easier location. I was able to install the battery with minimal effort and using existing holes and studs.
First a wire bracket needs to be removed from the vehicle. The wiring harness that was attached to the bracket was separated from the bracket and just pushed toward the firewall. Removing the bracket freed up a stud that will be used to hold the battery box. There are two more studs also that will be used. I also cut a wire tie that secured another harness to the air box to allow little more clearance and more slack in a ground cable to allow the ground cable to fit under the battery box without being pulled tight.
The battery box is from Ballistic Fabrication. It is D35 box for a Diehard Platinum battery, see link:

I then welded supports to the battery box that aligned with the 3 studs and an existing hole in the fender for 4 mounting supports. Excuse the welding quality.
The battery controller is a Westin T-Max. It automatically isolates both batteries based on voltage of each battery and allows for manual linking of the batteries. It also displays the voltage of each battery.

I mounted the controller in the glove box. There is a removable panel in the glove box that I drilled a hole into to allow the wiring to pass through.
Here is the finished install. The solenoid that links and unlinks the batteries can't be seen in the picture, but it is mounted to the side of the battery box closest to the firewall.
