Toyota may halt Japan car output in Feb due to steel shortage


Toyota has been working the situation , it will definitely impact Toyota 4Runner frames and many other steel components. I believe the rear axles also. Estimates are the factory gets back online in March that's a 90 day delay minimum. However when production ramps back up not all components will go back online immediately. Prius components first I believe. So it's possible 4runners/Prado could be impacted slightly longer. The 4Runner/Prado , GX , LC are one of Toyotas most steel intensive non Hino production in Japan so this will be an impact .

Ive been looking for a mgm trail premium for a couple months. I think it is already impacted because I cant find any.
 
Interesting. I just picked mine up from a large volume dealer in my area and he had quite a few less 4Rs than he had about a month ago.

The Trail Premium I purchased on Wednesday was the only one on the lot and I was told that they didn't show any inbound into their inventory in the near future.
(Fortunately for us it was the right color and had all the options we could have possibly wanted and more.)

Glad we jumped when we did. :rapture:
 
So possible increase in dealers sending more we want to buy your 4Runner mail hmmm maybe time to trade in for newer model ha
 
I stopped by the dealer yesterday for an oil filter. Thought I would check out some new clean 4Runners and....None on the lot?!?! Seems this might be why.
 
Woo hoo. Just picked up my 2016 TEP on Thursday.

I had test driven it with my son this past Saturday and was heading out planning to return a day or two later with my wife when another customer drove up in a 3rd Gen and start looking at the same car. I immediately walked back into the dealership and put a deposit down on it.

Mine was one of only four TEP's in the Chicago area. None with KDSS. There is also one 2016 TRD Pro in Chicagoland but the dealership is asking $46K for it. I couldn't justify an additional $9K for the TRD Pro. That amount of money will buy a shitload of mods.
 
I just checked my AutoNation dealer and they only have ten SR5's. No TE's or LE's.

When I bought my TE I bet they had thirty or more (all SR5's and LE's only).

I bought my TE in-transit. You rarely see a TE on a lot here in Denver. Most of them are sold before they get off the truck.

However Mountain States Toyota does have over forty in stock including several TE's (which is unusual in Denver).

Will be interesting to see how quickly the inventory gets depleted if they have to halt production.
 
In regards to the responses (not the OP): There is always an ebb and flow of inventory. When I was shopping in October of 2014, inventory of 2014s was LOW and the 2015 was only starting to hit some dealer lots. Fast forward one year and the dealers in my state and neighboring states that couldn't get any before had 10 or more each.

Drove past Autonation Toyota Arapahoe (Denver/Centennial) and noticed 10 ish SR5 and LE on the lot if anyone's in the market. Didn't notice any trails, but I could have missed them.
 
Just pinged my sales guy about this. I doubt it will affect my Feb 15 delivery date, but it'll be interesting to see what impact this will have.

If they start giving good deals on used 5th gens, it might make it really hard for me to not think about buying one of the new Tacomas...
 
Sucks if you are a dealer.

People come in with a fist full 'o dollars and you got nothing to sell them.
 
I picked up my 2016 TEP three weeks ago today and after reading this thread, I'm glad I didn't procrastinate on the purchase. This is my first 4Runner and its been extremely fun to drive.
 
This may explain why I couldn't find a single new TE within 300 miles of Knoxville, TN a couple of weeks ago when I bought my SR5.
 
Ugh.....I just put in my deposit on a Trail Premium on Friday. They said the order would go in yesterday, then I read this. Ever since I put down my deposit I've been scouring these forums and getting super excited about my first 4Runner........now I'm worried I won't see it for months!!
