2016 toyota 4 runner premium parking assist stopped working

WHEN BACKING UP this did work made beeping and if in the red zone brakes came on today just camera works ..

could not find any sensors in the bumper or any wiring.

anyone know how this works on a 2016. I understand earlier models have sensors in the bumper.

also this does not have a switch to turn it on/off as the manual states .

I think only the Limited comes stock with sensors and there is a button on the lower left side of the dashboard to toggle it.

Oh crap, that means my rear parking assist in my '16 Trail Edition Premium never worked!

Sorry, Trail Ed. Premiums only come with rear camera, no beeping assist. Curious to know what beeping you did hear.

the sales brochure does state that the limited only has the sonar front / rear detection system on a 2016 model year..

my wife was with me every time when this did work which to me was a surprise since I also thought it was only on a limited model.

every time I would back up into my drive way and my other car parked behind my toyota the beeping would start then rapidly increase in frequency . yesterday it never beeped..

that would be weird two people having the same dream .

I think it must be that battery in the rear cargo area.

Did you buy this new or used. Someone may have added aftermarket sensor if used. There are units that don't have the circular sensors in the bumper but rather a strip mounted on the backside of the bumper cover. If used it could be one of those. Look for wiring around the bumper cover.

Good excuse to get ALP laser jammers, they also have a parking mode :dancin:

I had my laser jammers set to startup in parking mode for 30-seconds or when i flipped a switch.

SR5 models also have the backup sonar. Four round sensors in the bumper, button on lower left side below steering wheel. I don't recall my brakes coming on, though. Just faster beeping until a steady tone, then *boom* when you ignore the tone and hit it anyway.

That said, I was under the impression that you had a camera or sensors, not both. But there were some big differences between the 2011 and 2016 models.

Again, which model; TEP or SR5P? After you reveal, all you have to do is wait for someone with the same model to post.

If you do have PA, you should also have a button to turn it off. Mine does.

I have a 2015 SR5 Premium and I don't have back up sensors. I just have a camera. Only Limiteds have sensors after 2014. Pre-2014, 5th gens had sensors.

I called up Toyota direct to find out what is going on . Though it was possible my wife and I passed thru a time portal and was driving around in a 2020 T4R .

Toyota support person looked it up said that this was a temporary SAFETY CONNECT SYSTEM FEATURE for a limited time .

anyone know about how this works like accident avoidance .. she said it uses the camera to determine distance not sonic sensors.

If you had the "parking assist" sonar feature (which you don't, if you have a stock 2016 SR5), there would be a button just to the left of your steering wheel to turn it on and off.

The owner's manual doesn't say anything about using the camera for range detection. I certainly have never noticed that.

"Safety Connect" is the name of Toyota's roadside assistance and LoJack-style response system, which you also don't have (again, it's standard on the Limited and not an option on other trims).

Maybe someone was unbuckling their seatbelt as you pulled into the driveway and what you heard was the seatbelt chime?

I have a 2016 Limited 4Runner. Parking assist had not worked for several yrs. I decided to try fixing it yesterday. First looked for fuses, which I didn't find so thought I would research on line. Saw Vjack's note, went out and pushed the button and it now works. Could have looked in manual but wouldn't have looked in right place. Had no "proximity" in Index. Vjack rocks.
