Any idea which services exactly can be opted out of? I like the ability to remote start it from the app, for instance. If it kills the connection to the car, losing some stuff could suck.
I just don't want it logging my every route and speed and stuff. I wouldn't even really have an enormous objection to it if the data got purged at midnight every day. But if they're saving everything and throwing it into some sort of long-term database, I definitely have an issue with that.
Yeah, remote start goes away if you opt out of "Remote Connect." That's of course the service that tracks your every move and reports it back to Toyota for them to sell. There's "Safety Connect" which is the OnStar equivalent where you can call for help. Then there's "Service Connect" which reports on your car's status to the dealership so they can market to you.
Those are the three services available in the 2020 4Runner range.
I'm 99% sure that "Remote Connect," which provides the lock unlock and remote start is also what's responsible for all the driver score bullshit which is what I find most offensive. It might also be tied to "Safety Connect" because they need your location for services like emergency assistance.
