2020 model issues/observations

Any idea which services exactly can be opted out of? I like the ability to remote start it from the app, for instance. If it kills the connection to the car, losing some stuff could suck.

I just don't want it logging my every route and speed and stuff. I wouldn't even really have an enormous objection to it if the data got purged at midnight every day. But if they're saving everything and throwing it into some sort of long-term database, I definitely have an issue with that.

Yeah, remote start goes away if you opt out of "Remote Connect." That's of course the service that tracks your every move and reports it back to Toyota for them to sell. There's "Safety Connect" which is the OnStar equivalent where you can call for help. Then there's "Service Connect" which reports on your car's status to the dealership so they can market to you.

Those are the three services available in the 2020 4Runner range.

I'm 99% sure that "Remote Connect," which provides the lock unlock and remote start is also what's responsible for all the driver score bullshit which is what I find most offensive. It might also be tied to "Safety Connect" because they need your location for services like emergency assistance.

Yeah I couldn't believe the driver score thing in there. Pretty crazy stuff. I need to check the terms and conditions and find out exactly what they are authorized to do with that information.

EDIT: The disclosure on the "Driver Score" screen in the app reads "Driving behavior data and driver's score are not shared with any third party."

Still, that sort of thing could probably be subpoenaed or may be discoverable in the right circumstances. Kinda worrisome

I really like the app to start the 4R especially when its parked out of range of my key. Does anyone know how much the app costs once the trial period ends??

Does anyone know how to lower the navigation system volume? On other cars, it seems you can use the stereo volume control when navigation is giving an instruction. Doesn’t seem to work on my 4Runner. The only option I have is navigation volume on, or navigation muted. Thanks

In the setup section go to Voice and the first option is Voice Volume

First time T4R owner... the seatbelt retracting tension seems to be a bit weak compared to my Highlander that I had. Sometimes I have to help feed it back before hopping out. Not a huge annoyance, but can it be adjusted?

Only potential issue for me (although this applies to the 19 too) is whether to do a 2 inch lift to fit 285s since no one seems to know if TSS can be adjusted. Dealerships give me conflicting answers as well.

I have a 3" on mine and sensors work just fine.

Did a 2/1 lift on my '20 a few weeks ago and no issues.

Is anyone having anything happening with their speakers out of the ordinary?

I’ve had my 2020 for like 3 weeks and I haven’t had my stereo above 20 or so and I’ve got buzzing in two speakers on the passenger side. I also don’t seem to have much volume coming out of the subwoofer in the back. I mean, im coming from a 12 inch sub in my old car and I know this is an 8 inch, but it’s like its not even there.

EQ is set dead in the middle on treble, mid, and bass. Balance and fader are set to dead center.

I mean, if this is the top of the line Toyota system (JBL in the TRD Pro), that’s pretty embarrassing. I’m seriously thinking of having it checked out because it’s so underwhelming.

Adjust the bass up?

If you do that, it adjusts the bass up in all the speakers. I've already got two that are buzzing, and I've barely turned the thing up and its middle across the board.

The thing *should* have an EQ that isolates the sub, but it doesn't. Even in the middle, it should have some output though

I really don't like the sound in my jbl system. Too much bass. It's almost like the system has loudness always on. I have to turn bass almost all the way down and treble/mid both elevated. Wish I could just turn the sub off without making bass suffer.
