Hi. This is my first post here.
I got a beautiful red 2020 TRD Off Road back in December. Everything was great until last week when I tried to start it and it needed a boost. (I’d been working at home so it had been sitting for a week.) After the boost, it was ok but I was a bit worried as I didn’t know why it was drained. Tried again today and it was even worse. I couldn’t even get the doors open with the smart key.
It’s basically brand new and only has about 2000 miles on it so everything is covered. However, this has me worried. A bum alternator, perhaps? Everything was fine when I was driving it daily pre-COVID-19.
By any chance do you keep the key fob in your car or very near to the vehicle when parked. The reason I ask as I read in the owners manual that this can drain the battery as the fob is in communication whenever near which can lead to killing the battery. I didn't have this issue with my 4Runner but when I saw the warning in the manual, it explained why my wife was having battery issues with her BMW as she used to keep the key in her center console since car was in the garage. Hope it's something as simple as this.
