265/285 mpg

I had the stock 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler tires on the T4R and recently went to 285/70/17 Nitto Trail Grappler MT (C rated) and noticed the dash MPG display go from 17.2mpg to 17.1mpg after installing the new tires. Is this accurate? I thought id loose more mpg.

I would assume MPG would decrease...the Traisl are heavier. I noticed the change on my old FJ

Not sure but I always manually calculate (well use an app) for accuracy.

Fill up, note your mileage and next time you fill up divide your miles driven by the gallons it took to fill up. That's the only way to be accurate.

I did a post awhile back on how your instant mpg display works and it will take several thousand miles before your reading will reflect accurate numbers.

Now if you don't want to do all that, you will lose a few mpg now that you went to big ol tires, especially in mostly city driving. Highway only about a half a mpg.

How many miles have you driven? I had no clue there were c-rated MTs btw. I'm interested now.

using an app i've gone from 17.7 combined mpg to 17.5 mpg when i changed out to BFG KO2 285/70R17 on SCS F5's - this includes off road trips - i'm pleasantly surprised that the drop hasn't been more significant

I'm sure you took into account the mileage variance of running the bigger tire correct?
