265/70/17 owners, wish you've gone bigger?

If a 265 is too small and a 285 is too big, then the 275/70 is the answer. Not all tire manufacturers make them in this size, but Cooper, BFG and a few others do.

I had my 265/70/17 BFG all terrains on for 7 years now. It is the perfect size for me. I would not want to give up any more power to push a taller tire.

Did you have to do any trimming for the 285s? My 1.25" all-pros should be here this week. Did you have any issues with your alignment (Caster) with your set up? My set up is similar, but I used Moog Replacement V8 4R front springs (over an inch taller Free height than V6 springs). With 5100s at .85 I got between 2.75-3" lift in the front.

Lots of trimming, also did the Body Mount Chop, did that before I even got the tires on though.

I have roughly 4.25" lift in front, 2" Net daystar spacer on top of the 1.75" 5100's and FJ springs. Still running my factory UCA's, they are in spec, however just like Firestone told me, I will ride alot better with some UCA's (LR UCA's are on the way). I bought some used, if I can't tell any difference I will put stockers back on.

For function and off-road reliability, I would not want to go any bigger.

Day Star 255 / 75 / 17

I installed the Day Star and wanted something bigger than the 265/70. I went with the skinnies Hearno is talking about - 255 / 75 / 17. I used Spidertrax and just had to push the fender liner forward, remove the front mud flap and barely trim the bumper - which took about 30 minutes.

I am considering going up to 285 / 70 / 17 but I will probably wait until I commit to the Toytec Ultimate lift sometime next year.

I have 255/75/17 and like them, but I just lifted it and think I need something a little taller/wider. It doesn't look bad, just not quite big enough. I don't have spacers though, so I'm thinking I may get those to see how it looks first. But I really want to try 285/75/17 toyo at2's I'm just concerned about all the rubbing, and I don't want to have to get a body lift.

I have a feeling that if you are closer to 25 years old you will want bigger, if you are closer to 55 then 265/70/17 is just fine. I am 59 and have had enough of sluggish vehicles because of oversize tires and stock gearing.

I have just the FJ springs in the rear and leveled my truck with Bilstiens, and I choose the 265/70/17 route. So in my case any bigger would be to much tire, hell I already have rubbing with the front liner so still need to push them forward. Love the way it looks and performance wise they didn't take away much from the V8 power so going to stick with them until I go with a bigger lift. Which may be never, this is a daily driver and did well playing off road over the weekend...

That will look awesome but fair warning, those 285/75/17s are tall (34"). I have the AT2s on my F150 and other than the noise, they are great.

Love my 285's

I recently made the switch from 265's to 285's and I love them! I did install a 1.5" BL right after I installed the tires due to the rubbing and now my rig sits high and looks awesome!

I have a 3 inch rancho spacer lift, and 265/70/17 safari signatures. I'm very happy with it. Gives me the clearance I wanted. For mostly street driving it seemed silly to kill gas mileage strictly for looks. Now after this summer when I head to moab, then I will bump it up to 255/80/17. Not a huge fan of overly wide tires.

I'm looking to go bigger (taller) than my stock 265/65, but not necessarily wider like a 275 or 285 would entail. Any drawbacks to a narrow tire like a 255/75r17? Basically a 32" height, but a little less width than stock.

I am most certainly in the honeymoon phase with my tires, but I enjoy the 265/70/17s. I have an OME/toytec lift approx 3/2 with spidertrax. I think they look great with it but that isn't worth much since I just did the install yesterday.

That's my concern...I'm not exactly sure how I'd fit them. But I love the tire! Especially the Xtreme version :bluejump:

For what it matters, buddy on 31s (265/70s) has made it everywhere our wheeling group on 33s and 35s goes. Suspension travel and locker(s) is more important than tire size. (Notice: suspension travel, not suspension lift. Ride height is less important than travel)

I'm happy with 265/70/17. at least for now. only running a 3/2 daystar lift, so they gave me a tiny bit more height, look way better (running 5th gen wheels with the nicer backspacing), and I still manage 18-20mpg on my daily commute with a V8.

Add another very pleased member running 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on Fuel wheels with a +1mm offset. I debated for months pouring over every thread regarding tire size and rim offset until I finally pulled the trigger. Absolutely zero regrets. The 265/70 gave me exactly the right scale to fill the wheelwell and the offset gave it just the right aggressive stance I was looking for without killing mileage, which already isn’t awesome. Part of me wanted to go with bigger 275, or 285 just for looks, but after being really honest with myself about how I’d actually be using them (99% street), it just made no sense to add all of that extra weight, wear and tear on the truck, gas mileage loss, etc. just to gain an inch or so in diameter. I ended up with exactly what I wanted with the choices I made, ymmv...

I wish I had gone skinnier not bigger. Either P255/75-17 or LT245/75-17. The Lt245 is the exact same diameter of the 265/70 but lower rolling resistance and the benefits of the LT construction. The 255 are crazy light, only 39-40lbs per corner and also have the lower rolling resistance and quieter ride.
