285/60/18 and wheel info

Hey guys. I have been searching the forums for a while trying to find info on this tire size and 18x9 wheels. I have learned a lot during my searches. I did have some questions for someone with more experience than me...

I want to run the 285/60/18 Nitto Terra Grappler (due to its good reviews on road noise). This will put the tire diameter basically the same as the stock tires on my limited. With the 285 being wider, would it be better to go with a -12 offset or a -6 offset so the edges of the tires don't move quite as much? Also, with a 285 tire and a -6 offset wheel, will that pose any issue with the UCA and the 4.75" backspace and the tire rubbing on the body mount?

A -6 offset with a 18 x 9 wheel(4.75 bs) will be a good fit . You won't get into potential UCA rubbing problems til you get over 5 or 5.25 backspacing.
You also need a hub bore in the new wheel of at least 106.2mm as the Toyota hubs are 106mm.

The 106.1mm bore should work. As long as it's not a 78mm bore for GM 's then they made it to fit Toyota's.
 
Thanks harper7. I appreciate the info. Its good to know these will work and i think they'll look decent on a BP.

With the 285/60s, I may have to do the inner fender mod like you detailed in the mod thread. I'm hoping it'll be ok though, since the diameter is still 31.5".

right click and save the picture that you want to upload or get what ever photo you want. Open an account at photobucket.com (there are other sites that are free too, i just happen to use photobucket. Once you create the account. Choose the "Upload" button (pictured below)

I think you can browse for the pic, or you can just drag the picture file that you have into where it says drag.

Wait a few seconds or minutes depending on number of pics, quality and size of files. It will show ads embedded in the webpage while you wait. Then at some point it will show you the pics. You can click on one to view it, which will also show you the linking codes. I usually right click and open each picture i want to post in a new tab, so i dont have to continually click back and forth.

Once you are viewing the pic you want to post, look for the html codes. Use the one that says IMG and if you just click on the code, it will copy it for you automatically. then just paste the code into the reply field. The code will appear in the text, but once you click submit the picture is shown, not the code.

There are usually several codes depending on what you want to do with the pic, or how you want it to be viewed. for forums the best one is the IMG tag. Here is example of which one to use

I vote for the Ultra Barons, simply for my own pleasure. :fear:

I REALLY want the Baron's on my Black SR5, but not sure when, or if, I'll be pulling the trigger. They are also a tad cheaper than the Mavericks. I have yet to see them on a 4R.

My guess is they would look pretty good on any SR5 or Limited, as they have the bits of chrome on them. They seem to go well together.

If you browse the picture threads, or lifted photos thread, I think the guys some of the guys that have the machined/silver/chrome highlights on the wheels actually look very good. As long as they are on the SR5 or Limited.

The wheels in your photo's are 20", not 18" like you mentioned originally. Just so you know.

I prefer the Baron's.

I wonder if the -12offset will be a problem with an 18" wheel? (versus the -6offset of the Maverick)
 
Yeah, I'm finding that Blizzard Pearl pics with aftermarket wheels are fairly hard to find. Also with a wheel that isn't black, as that seems like the most popular type...

I've looked through other threads and haven't seen any combos like these in a BP.
 
I ended up going with a 18x9 -12 os wheel and ordered some Nitto Terra Grapplers in a 285/60/18 size. This is the same diameter as the factory tires/wheels, just wider. Is there any risk in rubbing the fender liner or the body mount with this combo? Most of the threads I've searched on rubbing are running a taller 285.
