285/70/R17 5th Gen

Nice looking rig! I'm picking up my 2018 TRD Off Road Premium tomorrow. I bought a set of black TRD rims, and I was wondering what type of black lug nuts you are using? Do they fit the TRD rim like the factory lugs? Where can I get a set? Matching wheel locks?

Thanks

They’re just black painted lugs off eBay. I don’t use the locks. With a lift very few people would be capable of jacking up your rig to get the wheels off!

I have the same question as Grape Ape above. I have read the 'Going Bigger" Thread and have heard what I want to hear, trim the liner and the mud flap and you can run 285/70/17's

then others tell me no, you need a lift body mount chop and spacers. I just wanna buy a new set of tires... the difference is about an inch taller and less than an inch wider...Right? so the dummy in me says "how hard can it be" (in the voice of Jeremy Clarkson) if I need to do something more than a trim of the liner and the mud flap I'll just do the 275/70 and be grumpy for a week, my big issue is that there are so many more all terrain/hybrid options in the 285. I DO NOT want project creep so I need a clear answer. preferably from someone who has a 2017 TRD OR or TRD PRO... I am given to understand that the SR5 and Limited ride about an inch lower from the factory.

A little late to this party, but 285/70/17 Mickey Thompson Deegan 38's on FN FX Pro's (17X8). 3" Toytech, no rubbing.

Falken 285/70R17

I just put Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT285/70R17 on 17x8.5" wheels on my stock 2015 Trail Edition. The front tires definitely rub with the slightest turn of the wheel. Falken and Cooper, and probably some of the other brands, have spec' sheets for their tires. The 285/70 requires an 8" to 9" rim, according to the spec's.

Good thing I already had my ICON long travel, Stage 7 lift here and ready to install or I would have been stuck. I lifted the front and will be working on the back tomorrow. With nearly 5" of lift the tires no longer rub except when turning sharp. I don't know how I got 5" of lift with coil over shocks that are designed for 2&1/2" to 3" of lift, but there it is. I haven't driven it very far yet, just around the neighborhood. I'll get it aligned as soon as I finish the back and can verify the total lift.

Holy cow. 5 inches? How much preload did you put on your coils?

I run 285 K02 on factory Trail Wheels. I did a 3" OME suspension and SPC upper control arms. No rubbing, no trimming, no cutting. I have a set of spydertrax that I have not installed because when I do, I WILL hhave to cut, trim, and adjust at the fenders and flaps.

285/70/R17 on Limited only required leveling kit

Anyone run 285/70/17 on a stock TRDP?

I put 285/70/R17 BFG KO2s on my 5th gen Limited with only 2-3 spacers and I get the tiniest amount of rub every once in a while on the fender liner only on the right side, in reverse, at full lock. Seriously like it's like every 1 out of 10 times I reverse it may or may not rub a tiny bit. I don't know why so many people trim and mod to get the same tires installed??

485/70/17 Falken AT3 on TRD Off Road

Just got these put on and they look awesome and rides great, amazingly there is no rubbing no matter which way I turn the tire. My only concern now is the loss of power and off-road performance. Wondering if I need to re-gear or buy a new upper control arm. Want to be sure its solid on the trail.

Anyone had any experience with putting these size on and heading off road? It only has a spacer leveling kit (newbie stuff), did I just screw myself?!

How much lift, wheel spacers?

2.25" rugged off road spacers. Already considering switching it to a suspension lift and adding rear spacers as well to correct the reverse rake.

Spacers will give you ground clearance, that's it. You will lose articulation so if you want better off-road performance, get a suspension lift on front and back. You won't need upper control arms unless you went 3"+.

Bfg ko2 285/70r17

I just got a new set of wheel and tire: BFG KO2 285/70R17, C rating on Black Rhino Chase 17", 8.5" width, 0mm offset. Installed on 2019 TRD off road with 3" OME suspension lift front/rear. Slight rub on the front fender when reversing at full-turn; going to push/trim the fender.

K02 285/70R17 Load C Tire Pressure

I just set our 5th Gen ORP with some of these tires on 8.5" rims but am getting steering wobble at 45+ MPH (Factory had no issues). I have had them balanced 3x with the last one being the road force balancing at the same place. I plan on taking it to another shop but am looking to see if tire pressure can help fix this issue. Currently running 43lbs. What are you guys running on these tires for pressure?

I have E load Nittos in stock size. Running 36 psi all around. No shaking or wobbling at any speed. 43 seems really high. If you look at your tire from the front, is your entire tread width touching the ground? Mine definitely wouldn't be at 43 psi.
