285/70/R17 5th Gen

Any pics stock Pro with 285/70/17 and no issues with rubbing?

What do you mean by no issues with rubbing. Do you mean after making adjustments, i.e. fender mode, mudflap removal etc or no modifications at all?

My buddy has 285 on his pro and has rubbing. I think the only advantage the pro over other 4runner is the 1/2 inch lift on the front. Based on my experience any stock 4r will rub with 285.

I was checking with someone if they put 285’s on a stock Pro with SCS wheels if they will still rub. But everything I have found seems like you still need to lift your Pro for 285’s to work. I’m taking my Pro wheels off and checking to see if 285’s will work on my new SCS wheels. I might just mount my stock tires for now. The only good selection for a 275 that will work without a lift are BF tires. I was holding off for now with lifting my Pro. Thanks for the info.

I have 285 KO2 on my stock sr5 suspension. If you are lifting via increasing travel, aka longer springs, it will not solve the rubbing issues just reduce them. This is since under full compression it was have the same issues as the stock suspension. If you are going spacers/spring mount location then that will help.

2020 TRDP 285/70/17 Minimum Requirements

I know the mantra here of searching and reading before asking repetitive questions. I get that. I've read through and bookmarked dozens of reference threads on all manner of subjects of interest here.

What never seems to reach any real consensus is the subject of what's actually needed to mount 285's on TRD wheels. Some say a 2" spacer lift up front will get it done with no rubbing or further modifications needed. While others seem to feel that even with a 2" spacer lift, additional modifications are required. Some minor, some not so minor.

Some believe the TRD OEM wheels are not appropriate for 285's (too narrow) while others disagree and feel TRD OEM wheels are fine for 285's.

I have a 2020 TRDP and simply would like the simplest rout to 285's. I live in FL, so there are no heavy duty articulation requirements (in my area any way). Flooding? Yes. Dirt/mud? Yes. But nothing that requires anything more than the TRD suspension as is. I just want a better stance, a little height and larger tires. I had 275's on my 13 Trail but obviously the math changes with a new tire size.

I had been thinking about a 2"/1" Cornfed spacer lift and adding 285's to my TRD OEM wheels but for the life of me, can't seem to find any real consensus to that combo.

Anyone?

I have read up on other post 285’s will clear on the Pro with the Cornfed spacer lift 2/1. That will make the stance level. If you want it to look like factory you need to go with 1.5 for the rear. My issue is with my 2020 Pro I’m going with 8.5 inch wheel which is going to make it definitely different than the 7 inch pro wheel. Also I think I read you might have to remove the front mud flaps with the 285’s with the Pro. The 2 inches in the front I read guys have said it clears.

I'm with you. I have done research till I can't read anything new. I was convinced that Eibach adjustable @ 1.6" front, Daystar 1" rear, factory UCA's, Standard TRD OR wheels and 285 Firestone AT/2's would be the perfect ticket for me. Then my tire/lift guy is giving me a hard time about what a bad idea it is and how I won't be able to get alignment within specs without new UCA's else I'll rub, possible BMC, etc. And he's got a 5th gen himself lifted with a full Icon setup.

Eibach new coil springs for the TRD Pro fox suspension will be out soon. And they say that will lift the Pro fox suspension 1.6 in the front and 1 inch in the rear on top of what the Pro already is. I don’t think that will be any issues with alignment and UCA’s. There is a place close to me that does nothing but pretty much lifts on any truck. And speaking with them he told me on the 4runner 2 inch spacer for the front and 1.5 for the rear there won’t be no issues with getting it alignment. He says it will be close but in specs. Like he told me all depends what you plan on doing with your vehicle. Are you off roading with it or just want it to look good with a taller stance. Here is example he was telling me had a guy come in with his Tacoma and it was fine how it was lifted. The guy spent all this extra money on a full suspension that he is not even going to use for the purpose for off roading. I’m holding off now on my suspension because of guys are posting about having bad clunks with there fox suspension. I will wait to see how mine does before I touch it.

Conflicting info on this subject is at about a 1:1 ratio in my experience.

TRD wheels, 2” front spacer lift, 285/70/17. What is the reality of this plan?

On one hand you get this.....

And then to the next guy it’s nothing. A minor wheel well liner adjustment, which was barley necessary according to him....

These 2 assessments are very typical of this same question and a coin toss isn’t the best basis to start modifying a 2020 Pro with 500 miles on it. I’m kinda surprised this isn’t a question with a unanimous answer to it given the volume of T4R owners here who’ve modded them for years.

Exactly. 500 miles + $2300.

I have a 2019 TRD PRO with a front leveling kit. Anyone know if 285/70/17 will fit on stock wheels without any modifications.

I think you’re good. I have a 2.5” front and 1” rear. My 285’s clear just fine.

This was the post I was looking for! Are you rubbing any? I have a 2011 SR5 and getting 5100s with a 1.75 front inch lift. I was measuring and I believe I may have room for 285s.

Yes and all in the front. I had to remove front mud flaps, push back front wheel fender, and trim the lower front bumper. No body chop mount but it is very close under full lock.

Above if before 5100 and new springs but as I mentioned under full compression it does not matter.

285 70/r17

I may be in the wrong thread but I’m running 285/70 r17 on my 2013 and had to have wheel-wells trimmed.
Ground clearance at rear differential is only 10 inches.
