285's with stock wheels help

Here we go: 2011 TE with a OW 2.5'' lift on order.

Was planning on running my stock wheels with mounted AT's(265/70R17),

If I were to go with some 285/70r17 on my stock wheels would I still
run into tire rub?

Would Spacers help eliviate rubbing and what widths are good to use.

That is my exact setup with out spacers, and I only have had very minimal rub with the front of the plastic wheel well liner. That can generally be easily eliminated elongating or redrilling the mounting holes near the lower front of the wheel well liner. There are no places where the tires rubs into something hard. I also should mention that I have aftermarket UCAs, but there was no rubbing with the stock UCAs. Just got them to get my alignment where I wanted it to be.

Thanks for the help....I also have UCA's orderd with the lift....

So the rubbing is at full lock?

Would spacers help with the rubbing issues at all

Man, I'm such a 4Runner N00B

Wheel spacers will make it worse. This effectively puts your tires out "further" from the truck. Which would be the equivalent of using a wider tire. For example, if your tire is 12" wide and you use a 1.25" spacer, your tire is now 1.25" further away from centerline of the truck. So, when you turn, the tire will most likely rub the frame where the body mount is and get you even closer to the front inner fender liner.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't putting the same width tires further out (wheel spacers) allow you to have less rubbing because you would have more room to turn the fronts right and left? that's always what I understood :fro:

I rub on one side a little but at full lock but only in reverse and if that side is compressed a bit. I can make it not rub at all by changing the UCA castor setting and the stock castor settings, but it is so minimal now I'm not worried about it. It will help if you have a patient alignment guy to help you find the best relationship between the UCA and LCA castor adjustments. Good luck!

What aftermarket wheel size would iliminate rubbing altogether

with a 285/70R17 tire and a 3'' lift?

I know nothing about wheels and backspacing.

Let me know what you guys are running.

Steve, I have stock tires so no personal experience, but Ive dont a lot of reading on here.

285's will rub, some more than others, and spacers/lift will not eliminate that. Lift might help, but plan to have to do some alignment work (more caster) and fender moving (no cutting should be required) adding after market UCA's would be advisable if you go with a lift to help you achieve you alignment goals. Im assuming you realize your spedo/odo will be affected.

275's might not rub, but outside of BFG A/T there arent many options

Some guys have gone as high as 305's but those are guys with aftermarket rims, and the knowledge/experience to deal with any potential issues

I have also done alot of researching on here but it gets confusing.
I have everything from no rubbing to slight rub when turning and/or backing up.

Spacers will help, Spacers will rub more...I'm super greatful for all the post and info that I am getting but it also make my head dizzy:ybrick:
