2nd Gen Blower Issue

Hello all! I've been searching and researching here for a week now and haven't found and answer yet so now I ask. I have a 92 T4R and need to check the blower resistor. The problem is its way in the back of the motor assy and facing the firewall. Is there an easier way to get this out without yanking the whole heater/ac unit? I mean WTF I can't even get my fingers in there to unplug it! :redbrick:

this helps
pull the carpet back then remove the blower motor itself. it gives you more room.
also a flexing head driver works well.

Thanx BAD. will the heater unit separate from the a/c? It looks all connected.

they are two seperate units but they do kinda fold into each other and if you want to take it apart be ready to tear the entire dash out and the crossbar. also if your going that far it never hurts to throw in a heater core just for safe measure.

Make sure you check the switch too. When my resistor went, it burnt out the switch as well (or vice versa).

ozzy makes a good point, the resistors usually fail open, which just means a speed doesn't work.
But if it happens to fail as a short, it could overload and damage the switch as well (been there, totally melted the switch in my Maxima).

Yea I know. I pulled the switch and it was toasty. That and both ends of the connector and about 3/8' of wire at term.3. Got a new switch but hesitate to install before checking the resistor. I dread pulling the dash apart ... AGAIN.
