2WayAir - all 4 tires simultaneous Air-down & Air-up

Maybe I don't understand...

It looks like you still have to hook up each tire when you stop.

I don't see any piece in their kit that allows you to air up/down on the fly. If I have to stop and touch each tire then my CO2 tank takes seconds to go up and my cheap air down valves let me air down all 4 tires at once just like their kit. I'm not sure what is different except that now I have to keep track of a whip for every tire.

Hmmm,

Initially I thought it was an always available system. Some military and other trucks have a system where you can sit in the cab and air down/up with the flick of a switch at any time. That would be super awesome :D but that has to be built into the axles I think, not an easy bolt on :)

Still, if this is a quick 1, 2, 3, 4 hook up then sit back in the cab and watch a gauge, that would be an improvement from having to squat at each tire in turn IMHO

There's only 2 ways I know of to do central tire inflation "CTIS". Either you need portal axles so you can run air through the lower axle gear/shaft ala hummer or Unimog or external like this setup:

The external version is pretty exposed, so it's really only used in snow type conditions.

This system in the link is basically just a 4 way air hose that you mount under the body. It's probably kinda convenient, but not going to be an on-the-fly solution like true CTIS systems do.

That external setup is neat and would save from doing one tire at a time, but in my limited experience when airing up I'm not in that much of a hurry even if in cold temperatures we get here. For airing down I don't think this would be any quicker than a set of tire deflators. I think this is a pretty complex solution, even if I was airing up every day I don't think I'd want it.

Good thing is all the gauges are centralized.

You plug in 4 hoses, and you just go to a central location and get the air-down and air-up simultaneous done. Not needing to hook 1 tire up, knee there and keep checking.... then repeat 3 more times.....

the problem with 2way air is maximum pressure for the system is 145psi ... Unless my math is bad. I run my tires at 40psi and I have 4 of them. Then wouldnt that exceed the system pressure when airing down or up ???

This ties all four tires into one air system to be inflated/deflated from one central point. The volume increases, the air pressures do not multiply. It would just look like one big ass tire to an air compressor.

BTW one of the Vegas guys has this setup:

I totally didnt think of it that way ... thanks for shining the light

how fast can you air up ??? Can you tie this in with ARB twin pump setup ???

how fast can you air up ???

Depending on how low you went!

Basically your previous air-up time times 4 minus all the wiring hookups and move around time. I had seen this in action, it seems much faster.

Can you tie this in with ARB twin pump setup ???

Of course, that would be THE BEST pump to use. Yet, it will work with something along the line of Viaair 400C.

Very interesting, but for now I will stay old school and use my Trailhead deflators and CO2 tank. In 5 minutes I can fill all 4, put the stuff away and be looking for a drink.

The air up time may be faster if you have a fast compressor. My trial rig compressor is 12cfm. It can pump air faster than you can fill a single tire through the valve. So it cycles the pressure switch while you're filling at 120psi. In that scenario I could definately fill faster with a setup *like* this. Unfortunately this system uses very small suspension air bag hose - which also likely would not provide sufficient volume as the manifold to meaningfully change the fill speed. If it had more like 3/8 ID hose it would likely be faster - if you have a compressor that can keep up.

With most electric compressors it's just a convenience thing. The slower the compressor the more convenient. With 12cfm I'm looking at something like 1-2 minutes per 39" tire, so it's no big deal with a clip on chuck. With my 12v compressor and 10 minutes per tire, it's nice to set and forget for 40 minutes. Much more convenience with a slower compressor. Lots of people setup the same thing without the permanent mounting. Kinda like this:

Phht! Air down time is to talk about what we are going to do on the trail and air up time is for a beer and talk about what we broke..... I enjoy that time lol

12 cfm, link?? Jeez. My cast iron home compressor only does 8.

My understanding is that the Hummer/HUMVEE central air systems leak A LOT from ex-military and some Hummer owners I have met. I thought about trying to set the 4th gen up for it, but it's just so much work and custom machining that it just wasn't worth it in the end.

I like how the video shows buddy depressing the valve rather than removing the core when deflating, and then using an air hose without an inline gauge when airing back up. probably the most laborious way to go about the whole thing
