30" LED Bar Behind Lower Grill

Awesome, I was looking at my grille a year ago and was thinking of putting one in there in the same spot. But now that the light bars are cheaper and I've seen the effectiveness of the light in the location I'll definelty be doing this. I was afraid the light wouldn't be as useful that low. But thanks for the pics. Looks awesome.

just bought some chicken wire at home depot. as for the lower grill, i went at it with a dremel to cut out the inside, leaving only the perimeter. used some cardboard to make a template of the size chicken wire I needed, cut out 3 versions of it (****ed up the first two), be sure to cut out a little extra on all sides so you can shape it around the lower grill, used a mallet to shape it correctly, and finally, zip ties to tie it all up. it was much more time consuming than i initially thought, but after some trial and error, was able to get it on and have it stay on. good luck!

todays grille progress. I made a jig and cut to fit the board then screwed the mesh in to the board and bent the edges with a rubber mallet. Came out exactly how i wanted.

Ill install it later this week when i have some more time.

Finished the grille today, very happy of the outcome.

I'm toying with the idea of putting a 32" curved LED light bar in the lower grill. I have an 06 so it would be easy to get the grill on or off. Any suggestions?

It's aimed a little high right now. You're right though, a lot of light right in front so "ideally" it would be mounted higher, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'll know more once I have time to get out in the open and get it aimed properly.

I haven't done anything with the old bar just yet. I used it for all my test fitting so I wasn't beating around on the good bar, wanted it still together for that. I'll get back to you on this...may let you dig into it.

Yea, I swapped out the spots for the two floods. Much better coverage overall. I also moved them a little further towards the front of the 4runner and put the rear tow hook back on, so it provides a little more protection.

I ran them from my relay box in the engine compartment, through the firewall, down the driver side under the trim panels (with all other stock wiring), and in the rear passed through an existing grommet and down to the lights.

4th gen light bar install

I think this has been one of my most enjoyable mods. After measuring a million times, 1/2 dozen sketches, 3 calls to Rigid techs....I finally pulled the trigger on a 30" Rigid Ind. light bar with a combo beam pattern. I decided going into this project that it would be a deal breaker if it didn't look right (to me). And if there were a chance of visible vibration in the beam as it projected to the road. Me and a buddy decided that it would be best to weld where we could to prevent this happening and it would give us the opportunity to get it set up the way I had invisioned it.
The first thing I did was measure. After ensuring the bar would fit the application, I made the $$ plung. 30" Rigid Industries combo flood spot flat bar. (Pre radius light bar introduction.)
The second part of the project was removing the lower grill. This allowed me to do a few things. 1. See how much space I was dealing with. 2. Start measuring the grill to light. I decided to use the grill as an insert and border to aesthetically frame in the light. I removed almost all of the fins inside the grill with various tool heads on a Dremel. Carefully leaving meat where I could to keep as much rigidity as possible. The 30" light bar fits almost perfectly so I kept a little of the fins on the right and left of the grill to keep a super clean look.
I cut 2 angle iron and re shaped them. We had to add 3/16 of steel to push the light forward giving me the position I wanted. We welded the angle iron to the back of the bumper. My mounting hardware mounts horizontally through the light bar mount and angle iron.
It was critical to get the right spacing not only for aesthetics but for light bar adjustment elevation. Off a little up or down, front or backwards would make it look like poo. Imo. It took about 3 hours. I did all of the pre fab before welding and did the finish detail trimming where needed before we got to welding. I couldn't be more happy with what I was looking for.
I have full articulation up and down. These bars throw a lot of light DOWN. So I have mine angled about 10-15degrees up.

^ Looks great, like you, I was concerned with how this was going to look and if it would look like it belonged. I ended up using the custom Style B brackets made by MojaveMadMan and am very happy with the final product

This thread was my inspiration for wanting an LED bar, I originally wanted to go stealth like ARK did, however I like that it fills out the grille in my new painted bumper
