33s and stock wheels. Your expiernce - end up replacing or ok?

I was planning on keeping my stock 17x7.5 TE wheels when I get 285/70s.

During research I have seen a few posts related to concerns about losing a bead when airing down, uneven tread wear due to bulge of tire on narrow wheel, spacers required due to added height, etc.

I'd like to know your comments on:
-Running stock 7.5 rims with that tire size and no problems

-Running stock 7.5 rims with that tire size, had problems.
-- What were they?
-- Did it resolve normally?
-- Did you replace wheels? etc?

I'd rather not but 17x9s if I can avoid it, but if its something I need to include in my budget, I'd rather do the research now and not while broken down on a trail

I did not have one single issue what so ever when I ran 33' on my stock 2014 TEP rims.

Works just fine. Don't worry about it. I had 285s on 7" wheels for a while with no problems.

I haven't had to air mine down yet but no issues at all. I have only put about 8k miles on them but been on some light trails and decent mud but not much for rocks.

I would think the 7.5 is enough to not worry about a 17x8..but a 17x9 is another story. I've looked at the tire chart countless times and it seems like the 7.5 was the "bare minimum" in this tire size

I really have no idea where the claim that narrow wheels are bad for airing down comes from. The opposite is generally true in my experience with thousands of miles of sub 10psi off-road. Narrower wheels allow lower pressure before beads tend to come off. Long before we had double bead locks we just used 8" wheels for 12.5" tires rather than 10" or 12" wide wheels. In either event I wouldn't worry about because we're not really talking about tire sizes that you're going to air down in the same way we generally think about airing down for 40" tires. It's really apples and oranges comparing a rock crawler to a mostly stock 4runner.

I think the only real concern should be tire wear. And it's probably going to wear a little uneven in the centers at appropriate pressure.

Thanks to the OP for asking this, because I really want to go 285/70/17 on my TRD Pro Wheels, the lowest I air down to is 20psi on the trail and even on 275's it's not really that extreme, or at least doesn't hardly looked aired down.

I don't really know if anything on mine was trimmed as i purchased it with the lift and tires.

I ran about 6hrs with fronts at 10psi and rears at 9psi on stock TE wheels and 285/70 MTR's , no problems at all. Max speed about 60 on soft sand and pavement.

No problems with my TRD Pro wheels. You can see the difference when tires are mounted. When a wider tire is initially mounted on a narrower rim, before inflation, the bead of the tire is already pressed against the edge of the wheel and is easy to bead up. When a skinny tire is mounted on a wider wheel, there is a gap between the tire bead and edge of the wheel where air tries to escape making beading up the tire more difficult.
