37 #$%&* dollars for an oil change?!

haha those prices are crazy. I just got mine done today and paid $14. we got the hook up with the shops though so its all commercial price. thank god!

Yeah thanks, but no thanks. Thats the last time I'll have the dealership change my oil, plus the 2 hour wait. Time to get out the 2 ton jack and filter wrench (ah- just like my first car in high school). How do you reset the maint. light on the 06 SR5, becasue according to the manual- that light just means "Take your 4Runner in for a $37 oil change."

You're right about that!

Unfortunately, it's just the cost of doing business and at approx $100.00 an hour for labor, it's got to take a little time to change the oil.

I've got a coupon for an oil change from my dealer that sold me the 4Runner and have an appointment for this morning.

It'll be the last time (only 3,000 miles) the dealer will change the oil. Going to full synthetic at approx 5-6,000 miles and as usual, will do all the oil changes myself. :

Since most people are using Mobil 1 for oil, what do you use for greasing the zirks? Not sure if they make a synthetic for that or even if it would be worth it.

people around here swear by Mobil 1 synthetic for the zerks too.

Do you know what model of drain pan to get? I went to the damn Wal-Mart and they didn't have a clue...I do like my bucket though

They should all be close to the oil. They usually have a large circular pan or I bought the flat rectangular one with 2 drain holes in it. It was not over $8.

Put the front right tire up on a curb and change it yourself. Just be aware that $37 isn't much more than changing it yourself. Mobil 1 will run you $20-25 in oil alone.

and after seeing what those waterheads did to some vehicles, I am damn sure not taking one of my vehicles to them. I feel safer letting the oil go over 3K miles if I dont have time to change it than to risk my car to them.

I think the most important thing is to build a good relationship with a mechanic / service planner. Let them know that if they treat you right they will get all your business.

I have been using the same service planner at Lipton Toyota for 2 years and he always (well almost) does good for me.

He never tries to upsell me, and I get my oil change with 19 point inspection for $25. On larger services I usually get a small discount plus I have the peace of mind knowing that if anything goes wrong I can show that all service was done at Toyota.
