3D printed outlet cover - Convert rear ashtray to 12V/USB outlets

I started working on some other projects (good looking scangauge mount, cabin air filter) and ordered some prototypes. More to come on that...

I also took the opportunity to order some more outlet covers since I could combine the shipping. Quantities in the first post are updated.

Here is my painted plate. Must remove the ass tray from the center console yet.

Don't really want to remove the whole center console to get the ashtray frame removed.

In your estimation, how would fitment be if one of the holes were 1 3/4" (the other the standard 1 1/8")?

I'm contemplating having an inverter out going to this, or something like it:

You should have no problem with a single hole plate. Making it 1 3/4. I had to file both my holes to at least 29mm to allow them to fit.

No need to remove the center console.. I destroyed the frame getting it out..BUT, if you remove the ashtray, reach in and you will feel 3 tabs.. bend them towards the front of the car and the frame will come right out.. didn’t figure that out until I destroyed it.

Thanks for the input. Figured it might not fit... Was hoping to have a couple USB jacks in one circular cut-out, and then a/c on the other...

I'll see what else I can figure-out...

I don't know what your looking for......but with the two hole plate I see no reason why you can't get anything from a 12v outlet and
A dual USB outlet to 4 USB outlets.

I'm looking to install a 300-500 inverter at some point and thought it would be nice to have one outlet in that convenient location. I might just rethink that though...

Hey guys, I tried installing one of the outlet covers from my newest batch today just to check the fit and I ended of breaking off one of the snaps when installing it. This was very unexpected since my original parts were installed/removed multiple times with no issues. I'm hoping it's just this batch of parts (which luckily I have not sold to anyone yet -- your parts are all from earlier batches) so I will be hand sanding the snaps so there is less interference and checking the fit on every part I sell moving forward.
If you have an issue with any of your parts, please let me know and I can get a new part in the mail for you ASAP or just refund your money. I really don't expect to hear about any issues since I've sold >25 parts with zero complaints so far -- I think it was just this batch. Thanks for understanding

Hmm idk... I think there's enough material to cut a hole that big, but I am concerned that the two outlets would not have enough space between them. As you can see in the pics 19963.4lsr5 posted (page 6), there are only a few millimeters between the two lockrings. I'll get you some dimensions from the CAD file this week when I'm on my work laptop.

Well I installed the outlet cover. However I didn't think about the rear cup holder being in the way and don't remember reading these 10 pages and it being a problem.

Plus all the in and out I did I ended up braking off one of the top clips. Sadly it went into never never land or I'd have melted it back into place.

The paint I bought matches the leather seats but is too light for the center console. SEM 15223

I managed to remove the ash tray without wrecking anything.

I must find shorter length USB adapters to make this work properly and keep the cup holder I guess.

Edit: I did have to trim the nubbies off the locking nuts so it would fit.

About the outlet hitting the cup holder -- I had the same problem with mine so I bent the metal leads so the overall depth was less. Check out the pic in post #2. Also, if you go to the Amazon page for the 12V outlet I used (link in post #1 or #2) one of the pictures is a part drawing with some measurements on it. You could compare your part to that to see if it's possible that it will fit before you bend the leads.

I even put 90 degree connectors on it. Then I tried it without any connectors and still had a slight issue. I'm certain I could cut the tabs to around 1/8"-1/16" and solder the wires to it and it will clear the cup holder. That or you need to make a cover plate for the cup holder too.

This setup will be the better when it all gets figured out. I'm using two USB adapters. A two hole and a single hole with volt meter display. Like I said, I can look for shorter adapters too.

Got it installed on my sons this morning. Ended up having to solder the wires on because the crimp on type blade adapters would rub on cup holder. If you can find shorter plugs you might get away without soldering it.
