Hi guys, Im new here and I just took delivery of a set of Bilstein 5100`s for my 2002 4runner sr5 4wd with 145k on it, I am also looking at a ome 890 springs for the rear. My dad is still debating if he will let me lift it or not, so that leads me to my first question
1) do any of you have experience with running 5100`s at stock height, does the vehicle handle weird?
2) do any of you have experience with running 5100`s with lift springs in the rear, if so how does this affect the ride and handling of the vehicle ?
Also, my tires are bald around 3/32nds and living at 5,000+ feet with bald tires in the winter isnt exactly great. I want to put either a 31 x 10.50 x 15 or a 265/75/16 on but my dad is saying I have to have my speedo accurate, so I will need to calibrate it after I get larger tires. My dad is also concerned about me putting bigger tires on he is worried that I will need to re gear because at the moment I have 235/75/15 on . My questions for this are
1) have any of you re calibrated your speedo after putting on bigger tires ?
my understanding is that the limiteds had an option for 265/70/16 so I was thinking I could just pull the gauge cluster out of one that was in a junkyard, but my concern is that they have different gearing.
2) if any of you have put on bigger tires did you feel like you needed to regear ? I often do drives that are 200 to 500 miles each way through the mountains and on interstates.

thanks so much !

I couldnt figure out where else to post this, it is my first time ever posting on any forum ever.
I didn't even know you could still get a 4Runner with 15" wheels in '02...

- You really will want to regear when jumping from the small tires to the larger tires. You currently have either 3.73 or 3.9x gears and you will probably want 4.10 or 4.30 gears with the larger tires. The stock gears for most trucks with 265/70-16 tires is 4.10.
- The speedo is driven from the ABS system, so gearing won't effect the speedo, just your ability to accelerate! You can get a speedo calibrator from Dakota Digital or other places. I had to apply a 13% adjustment to get back to stock comparison with GPS, which is exactly the change I made with tire size (225/75-16 to 265/70-17).
- The 5100's should work just fine at stock height or lifted. They are designed for 0-2" of lift...
- 15" wheel trucks also have smaller brakes than the 16" wheel trucks, both front and rear. It will be noticeably harder to stop with the larger tires.

I personally re-geared *before* I went to the larger wheels/tires as part of my 4WD swap.

Lift for 3rd gen 4 runner

I want a 3 inch lift on my 4 runner I read an article that talked about what lifts are good and cheap.

Here is what I am buying can you please tell me if all this will work and if I need anything else?

Front Lift on 4runner:
OME 883
https://goo.gl/B5Hy63

Rear Lift on 4 runner:
1995 Toyota Land Cruiser 4.5L front spring Part # 48131, 48132 to put it in the back of the 4 runner (Do I need just the spring or the whole shock?)

The first post in this thread is a good starting point.

OME 883 shocks will give you a 3" WITH 100# additional weight up front, meaning aftermarket bumper and winch
If you don't have the additional weight up front, and can live with less than 3" lift up front, go with 881s (too much spring will make the ride stiff)

I would match the rear with 890s, unless you have an aftermarket (heavier) rear bumper or carry 100#+ extra weight in the back, then 891s

Any time you lift a vehicle via suspension you need to consider all things that will be affected: shocks, brake lines, hoses, an alignment, etc.
If you go with taller springs, get new, longer travel shocks

Do lots of research, there is no easy answer because suspension is 75% math (dimensions) and 65% feeling (subjective) and 35% intended use/purpose (I'm may be bad at math)

Anyone with an ARB front bumper running Bilstein 5100's and oem springs at factory height? I was planning on doing a mild OME lift but am now kicking around the idea of trying to track down some OE springs to pair with Billies. I have a 96 4x4 SR5 (16" wheels) so the newer (2000+ limited?) springs should add a little lift right? I think to eliminate other issues I want to stick pretty close to stock ride height. I'm wondering if anyone has run this setup and how it has held up.

Apologies for bringing up a topic that has been discussed ad nauseum. I'd like to talk to some guys who have run similar set ups to figure out what I'm going to piece together (4runner coils/shocks vs Tundra parts)

Help

Hey guys, new to the forum. I just need to know has anyone tried the Toytec 3 inch lift for the front? Running a full 3 inch lift right now but don't like the coil spacer in the front, also do not believe it is a full 3 inch.

Having the same issue, spacer just dosen't seem to be lifting the front the 3 full inches

What did you ever find out? Did you do anything besides put the bigger tires on?

lifting a 2wd

I went through most of this thread but didn’t find my info I need. My question is do the bilstein 5100 off of a tundra fit either 2wd or 4wd 3rd gen 4runner?

will the rear sit higher with 906 springs in back and trd springs up front? bilstein 5100 all around. trd on bottom perch.

Wheelers told me to do 906 for the back, with t1s in the front 5100 all around to do a 3" lift. im going to call ask them why 906 and not 890

2000 limited suspension

I'm looking for a 1-2 inch lift for my 3rd gen. I've already installed Bilstein 5100's with Moog 81041 coil springs in the rear. I'm planning on getting Moog 81090 Coil Springs and Bilstein 5100's for the front. I know the front Bilsteins are adjustable from a 0- 2.3" lift. Does anyone have a similar set up to this and did you get spacers in the back to bring it even? I'm pretty new at this obviously, I appreciate your patience. I try to take my rig off-road every few weeks so it's mainly for rough roads / slight 4x4

I went with Bilstein 6112 upfront with Bilstein springs and Bilstein in the rear with OME 906 spring and spacer on one of the sides. This gave me a 2 inch all around.

tire size is 265/75/16

2001 suspension

I just picked up my first 4runner. It came with a 1 in BL and 883 OME. How long should I expect to get out of the OME? The ride is somewhat rough but I can tolerate it since I'll eventually be weighing it down with bumpers. It still has stock UCA. Should I be in a hurry to change anything out? Thanks for any help. And yes I have already searched for these answers but nothing seemed clear for my scenario.
