3rd gen LED headlights!

Any updates on these lights after a couple months of use? My Silverstar Ultras just died on me last night, and I would like to replace them with something equally as bright that will hopefully last me longer than a year (I think I am averaging 13 months on each of my last three sets of Silverstars).



Also, have any other users successfully run these with the stock dust covers?

With the stock dust covers? No, they're still sitting in my glovebox.

Still enjoy my LED headlights.

I did solve a problem recently. My biggest complaint with these headlights is that they caused massive interference in my radio. I contacted Southeast Overland (where I purchased the headlights from) and they had the vendor (Lifetime LED) send me an interference harness for free. Plugged the harness in, and no more radio interference.

I have the flickering aswell I was also wondering if this was normal for led bulbs with DRL on.

These are DIODES, not light bulbs. As such they require 100% current to operate properly. The dimming of LEDs can only be achieved via (PWM) pulse width modulation.

Huh, that's weird. I did notice that when I go to 88.7 (89x radio) here in Detroit MI, it cuts out and is so staticky every couple seconds. No problem with 95.5 (iHeart Radio) though. Maybe its just my antenna lol.

You have to disable the DRL. It's an easy thing to do. Look at my post above and it'll have a link for the instructions with pictures.



Mine are going to be almost a month old. I love them so far. Now its time to replace my fog lights with Hella ones

I bought these headlights as a tipsy online purchase based on the recommendations of people on this website... And I do not regret it one bit.

These things are bright! I've done a kid retrofit on a previous car, and these are damn near as bright.

I only bought the 2400 lumen ones, after I bought mine I found out they sell 4800 lumen ones for 69$. Damn.

I recommend these as well.

Ok I saw these from the same seller. I don't know a whole lot about LED's so would these be to bright? or better than the 2400's?

Quick question for those that have installed OPs led headlight bulbs. I know this should be simple plug and play but I'm confused as to how to install the led bulbs in the original post.

Do you take off the outer hood casing that the instructions tell you to do or do you leave it on? How in world did you install it taken off? It is no where close to fitting in the space the original bulb was in...

Also, when I just kinda jammed it in there, the light projection went all over the place with a huge gap in the middle. My original halogens worked better...

Thanks any tips would be appreciated.

Huh? What is the "outer hood casting"? Mine just fit into the original socket and locked in place like the old halogen bulbs. You shouldn't be jamming anything anywhere. Did you get the correct bulb?

The only thing I didn't reuse was the rubber dust cover thing due to the large heat sink and fan on the back of the LED bulb.

So the link you have in the original post has these bulbs...with the casing circled in red. The instructions in the box says to remove the circled casing then install. Thanks for the help!

OK I feel like an idiot...I tried putting the bulbs in with the casing it fit fine. The instructions say to take off the casing but looks like that isn't the case for the 4runner.

I took off the casing and put the casing in place first(line it up) then install the bulb n lock it. If I put in both the casing/bulb at the same time, I can't lock it in or something stupid happens.

Glad you figured it out. Took me a lil bit to figure it out too lol

I also spent money early lol. I bought mine at $45 per bulb.
I looked and there is no 4800 lumen ones. They just advertise it as 4800lumen/bulb and sell 2 bulbs for ~$69 instead of $90.

they seem a bit cheaper than the ones you guys have been talking about. theres gotta be a difference.....

According to the description those are only on/off, no low/high function. This means no high beams, just on and off.
To the best of my ability to tell from the descriptions most of the ones being discussed here are complete replacements for our normal headlights (both on/off and low/high functions). I could be wrong though, I do not have a set. Though I will definitely consider buying them when my headlights burn out.

They look significantly beefier than the ebay ones. I'm definitely impressed by the light output and bulb quality. I'd spend a little extra and order these instead of the cheapo ebay ones. Plus, I got a pretty nice (and free) LED flashlight with the order.

Hmm yeah I was suprised to see the flashlight, it's a quality piece too.

I do get a bit of static when using FM/AM but Bluetooth, AUX and CD in my headunit are fine. But I never listen FM so it doesn't bother me.

Another thing to note is the Hi-Beams are kinda weak, I'm going to be running a 30in Lightbar so it doesn't botherme. But the Low beams are fantastic though.

I'm having trouble getting these installed. Any pics on how they look installed in the housing. One member used the rubber casing another one didn't. any help would be appreciated...

Just follow the instructions. I trimmed the opening in the rubber boot a bit. Otherwise it's pretty straightforward.
