3rd gen LED headlights!

So, I was able to mod the boots a bit but it still isn't ideal. The heat sinks on my bulbs aren't removable, so I basically have to jam the bulb into the boot and compress it enough to be able to twist the bulb into the 3 prong clip base thing. The problem is that the two plastic tabs that twist into that 3 prong piece are really small and the resistance from the rubber boot is slowly pulling the bulb out I think. I dunno. Not super impressed if i can't simply reattach the boot to keep these things safe from water.

If I they don't hold I'm just going to have to cut a lot of the boot away so the heat sinks aren't being pushed against so hard. I'll attach a photo once I get my hands warm enough again. =\

If I'm not mistaken, these LED bulbs are supposed to be able to withstand being completely submerged under water, so I didn't bother with the rubber boot.

Yeah, I know the original ones I ordered are IP68 (the ebay 2014 H4/HB2/9003 CREE LED BULB x1 HI/LOW Headlight Kit 2400lumen LIGHT KIT 6000k), so they're completely waterproof to 2 meters. However, the eBay seller (gtlightingusa) had to substitute those for these 2014 NEW JDM 60W 6000LM Cree LED Headlight KIT 9005 9006 H4 H7 H8 H9 H10 H11 | eBay

I wasn't sure if they were waterproof too because of the cooling fan on the back, but I finally found the product listing page and they claim to be waterproof! I'm going to go ahead and pop those damn boots off before they cause any more damage. I'm a dingus.

I did solve a problem recently. My biggest complaint with these headlights is that they caused massive interference in my radio. I contacted Southeast Overland (where I purchased the headlights from) and they had the vendor (Lifetime LED) send me an interference harness for free. Plugged the harness in, and no more radio interference.

I just remembered that there was something in this thread about solving the radio interference issue. I just messaged lifetimeLED for more information, so hopefully this is an option for me too!

You talking about the metal retaining clip that looks like it's made from metal wire or something? I've searched Amazon and a couple other placed, but couldn't find a replacement. I ended up taking a paper clip and bending it into the same shape. It's worked for over a year now, lol.

Yeah! I was having the hardest time finding the stupid thing online, and I thought that there is no way it's this hard to find and that I'm just being a dingus (again). I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

Paper clip, eh? I'll give it a go, I just feel like the original clip has a lot of tension to it, and I won't get the same kind of tension from a paper clip. Not really the case though, eh?

So exactly which led bulbs are people using and recommend ? Which bulb has the high/low beam ? And.which led is a nice white color. ? And it's plug and play ?

Been saying good things about my Lifetime LED headlights, and today one of the bulbs took a sh!t. The one on the driver side is now flickering. I think that means it may be overheating? Connections all look good, nothing seems loose. Not sure, but it's annoying, especially since I'm on vacation at the moment. I guess we'll see if Lifetime LED stands behind their warranty.

After investigating further, it appears something is wrong with the cooling fan. It's making a kind of grinding sound, so it seems that the LED is not being properly cooled. Really disappointing.

Did Lifetime LED make good on it? Really interested in this mod, but concerned about the R&D on these bulbs.

Southeast Overland (who sells the Lifetime LED bulbs) says that Lifetime is shipping me a new bulb.

Found these on EBay... They were $45 a piece but I am very pleased! My HIDs took a shat so I wanted LED. Did some research and found these. Direct stock replacement. Well made and seem bright. Won't know til tonight. I'll post some pics this evening. Kinda nice not having ballasts too!

How do you like the LED headlights? How has the performance of these held up?

I'm thinking about picking up a set of these. Anyone try the new ones putting up 1200+lm then the older set. Nearly double the price but I'm curious how they are.

I'd also like to know if anyone has replaced PIAA bulbs with an LED bulb. I've been running the Piaa's in my truck for years, 3800 color. THey KILL the stock bulbs and the silverstars, i've had both. I'm addicted to them, and it's going to take quite an improvement for me to switch.

So, has anyone gone from Piaa bulbs to LED's in their heads?

I've heard good and bad things about them, but some bulbs were priced at 250$!? At lifetime. I mean for that money I could just spend a little more and have a badass 55w retrofit

I agree that's quite a bit for just a set of bulbs. After some research on tacomaworld the new version on these LEDs are only about 25% brighter than the 35w version.

I'm looking for reviews/ opinions on the 35w (149$) versions as they seem like good value for the price and upgrade.

There is a guy on Tacoma world selling h4 led headlight bulbs for 100$. I mean for that money I would give those a try for sure. If you hear more on the 149$ pair I would 've interested as well.
