So you had to take off the plastic panel and the metal cover inside the tailgate, then fish it up to the loom?
I'm doing this as soon as my double DIN stereo arrives, and it looks like a pain in the ass....

how long have you had it? any issues with rain, or condensation, etc.?
i have extra lights in the back as well so night vision isn't much of a worry.

To connect the camera to your stereo did you have to take off the plastic panel and the metal cover inside the tailgate, then fish it up to the loom to the body?

i want something that looks oem, and am leaning towards getting one of those rear view mirrors with a screen in it. but apparently some of them are too large for the 3rd gen, so i have to do a bit of research.
we'll see. this isn't a high priority right now but definitely something i'd like to get done.

Reviving this thread to see if anyone else has installed a rear view mirror mount backup camera? Some are well reviewed and only $40! Thinking to avoid the wire fishing in the hatch and just place high up in the cargo area pointing down. My main goal is to see my real bumper when backing up.

I'm doing this at the moment, but connecting to a pioneer head unit .... I spent about 3 hours looking for the red/yellow wire that some suggested is the rear backup light wire that triggers the head unit to show a rear camera when the shifter goes into reverse ...... it's near the drivers side kick panel as some call it ..... turns out the wire is actually red/orange and it's hard to tell the difference, just wanted to save you time if you needed to find it at some point

Just FYI: if you run anything bluetooth in the truck (connect to phone or hands free or music) don't go with the wireless back-up cams. They operate on similar frequencies causing interference to the video feed. Basically, you can't see the camera if bluetooth is on.

Does anyone know the part number for the oval shaped, white plastic clips that attach the rubber wiring boot to the door jam and the hatch? I'm talking about the boot shown in the second picture in post #8 above. The good news is I got my camera wires run, the bad news is the clips didn't survive my disassembly.
About3 months ago, I installed a bucacam200j and it didn't have enough wire for the RCA to make it back to the license plate light. I installed the camera on one of the screws that hold in the license plate lights. My head unit is a Pioneer AVH 4400 NEX (it fits fine despite what crutchfield says) and I love the wireless apple carplay!
One tip that i found on another thread for running the RCA through that little rubber boot on the tailgate was SILICONE SPRAY - I fought it for a while and couldn't get it through... then I caved and got some silicone spray and had the wire run through in about 2 minutes tops.
the bucacam wasn't as wide of an angle as i would have liked but the color is great, it works well and makes parallel parking a lot easier now.

Alright guys.....I'm late to the party. I am trying to install a backup camera in my son's 2000 Gen 3. I can't get it to come on when I put it in R for nothing. I had the power and ground ran to the positive and negative of the backup light, am I doing that wrong? I have power to the camera, I can hit the button on the radio and the camera comes on, I have the hot wire on the video cable wired to the accessory wire on the back of the radio. Where should I be running the wire that connects to the reverse in wire on the radio. Please help me out. Thanks.
