3RZ Runners Only

For sure - postage is the main issue.
I can afford to purchase the items it is just the cost of postage that blows it right out the water.
My old dear comes out for a visit every now and again from the UK, I will buy a few small bits one at a time and have them delivered to her and she can bring them out. I am a bit screwed though on big stuff.
LED dash lights will be about my most affordable mod at the moment.
Regards,
Moz
I can't afford to buy most of the parts in the states lol. I make most of my own stuff. I bet you could show a pic to a local welder and probably come up with something similar. Worth a try at least.

Maybe - details? And what are you planning?
Got a pacesetter I fixed up with some nice paint and header wrap on the primaries. It was used for probably 2k miles bought on eBay used.

And, It's a secret...

Not too difficult to guess he's either building a turbo setup or going with ko racing lol.

Anyone running an LCE header here?

I just installed mine today along with LCE's high flow cat, and holy crap it got loud, my truck sounds like a freakin honda with a spoiler and wire spoke wheels, meng!

Anyone have a similar experience when installing theirs?

Maybe Im getting old or something but i want my truck to be quiet, a little growl is ok, but the full on fart-can-modded angry lawnmower sound is not cool.

Yeah i have the LCE header and i had it on when i had my stock muffler and it was very quiet, but once i put the JBA cat back and high flow cat it REALLY got louder...

Glad I found the 3rz thread. Us 4 cylinders need to stick together!

I just bought a '98 several days ago. 197k miles with a spotty service history.
Alternator at 130k
Exhaust Manifold at 140k
Starter at 141k
Resealed leaking oil cooler at filter housing 161k

I've always wanted a 4runner and this one was at the right price for me. No CEL but the brake indicator was on. Been keeping an eye out for any hiccups and potential problems.

So far I've noticed a few things:

A somewhat rough start. Slight grinding sound when turning the ignition.

I've never been really sure what an engine knock sounds like, but I think my engine is afflicted. It sounds like a lawnmower almost.

After 2 days of driving, on the 3rd morning a wee oil puddle beneath the car.
4th morning, same size if not smaller puddle, 5th morning no puddle. The oil levels are all good.

After driving it today, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. It looks like it was originating from the exhaust manifold.

Front brakes need to be serviced.

That's just so far. I'm thinking standard stuff water pump and from what I've read the timing chain guides should be replaced.

Plannin on takin to a shop tomorrow to get a diagnosis.

I'm not the most mechanically savvy person but I want to work on as much stuff as I can myself to save money and to learn about my vehicle. Lucky for me I've got my trusty Haynes book and you fine folks. Any advice?

At first I wasn't too worried since the CEL wasn't coming on but I figure that would be pretty foolish of me.:p

Cracked manifold. Hopefully you haven't cooked a valve yet.

For the oil you could be dealing with a front or rear main.

Valves need adjusting too. If you cooked the valve it's going to need head work. $$

Did the stock exhaust get any louder than stock with the header?

I'm considering going back to a stock style muffler right now

Glad to have you join the under-powered brotherhood!

So, these motors are slightly infamous for cracking the stock cast iron exhaust manifold, and burning valves as a direct result, this is the first thing I would check since you have listed some of the symptoms of this affliction.

The fix, if you are lucky and catch it before the burnt valve part, is a new manifold, "mini-header"( late model stock manifold made like a "shorty" header) or you can upgrade to a header of some kind to avoid the cracking cast manifold.

it did, slightly. what made the most difference was the exhaust system, the header added a certain "rumble" for lack of better words.

Well I was hoping it wouldn't be anything too serious. Was planning on taking it in yesterday but work got in the way. On the way to work this morning CEL came on :( . Don't have my code reader yet.

Hopefully its not the manifold because that was replaced 55k miles ago.

My exhaust got a little louder with the DT headers & the stock exhaust. It sounded nice. Now it's loud with the JBA cat back. I have no plans of changing it right now, it's not my DD.

Is there anything out there like the airaid jr kit for the 4cyl? All i can see is the k&n filter for like $300. I dont really want to go with a new filter, but id like to get some better air flow, delete the silencer. Any suggestions?

There's Volant, Injen & AEM off the top of my head.
