3RZ Runners Only

I missed the fact that there was a 3RZ-only thread on here until now, figured I needed to check in.

I plan to stick with the 265/70R16 tires with the 4.10 gears since it seems to be geared pretty right like this. Have other folks used higher gear ratios like 4.56 with this size tire? Any preference?

I run a set of 4.3 with that size tire and am not impressed with the gas mileage.....but I am with the locker lol.

One of these days I'll have pizza cutters with a 4.56 setup and keep it that way. Saving pennies as I go to do that and some other things.

My preference would be 4.10 with a 265 tire, gearing is all over the place from the factory, but I think that would put you right where you need to be for decent power and low cruising RPM.

Me too lol. I thought I was going to move to 255/85 sooner than later but I'm waiting for my tires to wear out before replacing.

Thanks for the sanity check!

That is where I think I am heading too. Just need my BFG's to wear out faster. Have 25k on them and still over 60% tread.

Same boat. I've got roughly 30k on mine and they're about halfway done.

Tossed some new 33" shoes on a couple days ago and thought I was gonna take a big power loss ...but I was thankfully wrong. Lol

Kryptoroxx hey buddy I read maybe 4-6 months ago something about a oil leak below exhaust manifold, somewhere in the oilfilter housing area(can't remember if you had the problem or someone else)...lone behold mine just started leaking there as well...I've been searching and searching for the threads I was reading but seem to not be able to find them. Any chance you solved yours and/or know what exactly to search for on the forums maybe point some fingers in a direction(s) to search and I can get going on the leg work of researching this thing lol

That might have been me. There's not many people here who had this problem yet. I had more hits searching the web. I fixed mine over the summer. I think Toyota calls it an "Oil Filter Bracket". Try searching that. There's an O Ring & gasket that have to be replaced. Take the tire off & go through the wheel well. You'll need some extentions, swivel sockets. There's 1 nut & 2 bolts that are a bltch to get to. I think they were all 12mm. Use a 3/8 deep socket to get to the nut, it's in a tight spot. You'll need to plug the coolant hoses when you disconnect them.

That's right the O-ring thing is what I was trying to remember! Yeah I'd imagine it being a pain but I can figure it out Scramble thanks for the quick reply and the jump start towards the solution. Much appreciated! What is then, I'm going out on a limb here since I don't know exactly nomenclature and etc. That where the bracket bolts to the block the other ring and gasket for the oil into the filter? And this I'm assuming is one of the few 3rz occasional problems?

There's a metal tube that goes into the block that gets a O Ring & then the perimeter of the housing gets the gasket that mounts flush against the block.
I didn't mess with the top of the housing where you screw the filter on. Filters come with their own gasket.
