4.0 Supercharger from Pre-Runner for 4Runner

I sent an email to a couple of dealers on the TRD list about when this supercharger was going to be available... Anyone else hear anything?

So far, the gains seem to be fantastic according to TRD specs:

HP gain: 70 avg, 85 peak
Torque gain: 80 avg, 97 peak

If these numbers are true, 4.0 should see around 315 HP with 362+ ft lbs torque... Absolutely incredible for a 6 banger

Then you look at the straight 6 in BMW's M3, that's 3.25L and makes 333hp normally aspirated. :awais:

If you look at the 2.0L in the s2000 that 4 banger make 240 hp = 120 hp per liter! most hp per liter motor in the world!:bowdown:

Also peaks at about 9K you won't be doing that in the V6.

Like mikes4runner said, you need to rev that thing like it's not yours to squeeze out the minute amount of torque that the motor makes.

Honda bumped up the displacement of that motor in '04 (I think it was '04 anyway) to 2.2L while the hp stayed the same. Still over the magic mark of 100hp per liter, but I thinkBMW's S54 (from the M3) is a much better package.

No Joke Hank!! It was supposed to be available this spring, but the PreRunner ran into delays and won't be out until summer with the Supercharger.

Why don't you think they'd be able to make a supercharger? They have supercharger kits for the 2ZZGE engines in the Celica GTS/Matrix

Koz - The PreRunner/Xrunner has already been marketed as having the supercharger for the 4.0 V6 engine. They have been marketing this for almost a year now. I doubt they would not discontinue the supercharger for these before they market it...

This ones mine! I'm pretty suprised at how much of my free quality driving time i'm spending in my t4r lately. Its such a cool vehicle and i'm real glad i got the moon roof as i'm addicted to convertibles and its real big. I usually drive arround with the moon roof open and the rear window down and I'm happy

I don't want to burst anybody's bubble but if you call/talk to TRD about a supercharger for the 4.0 V6 and the 4.7 V8, you will not get a straight answer. I can tell you that the V6 has a better chance of being developed because of their advertising, but don't hold your breath! :cursin:

I'v read that this XRunner comes with the supercharger pre-built into it. In other words...the car and engijne are built with the supercharger, i don't think they just attach it on. There might be a lot of other modifications required. I've read that the X-Runner is a 6 or 7 speed manual transmission and only rear wheel drive. I think they might do that because all the current transmissions and perhaps other aspects of the engine couldn't handle that amount of torque/power? I don't know. my 2 cents.

They currently sell the X-runner with the same 1GRFE engine that the V6 4Runner comes with. It comes with a 6 speed manual and it is rear drive. Currently no factory supercharger available, yet...

Wow, this is an old thread... After many emails back and forth from TRD, I am not sure they are pursuing the supercharger fro the 1GRFE engine any more. Lately it seems like TRD is more interested in pushing concept vehicles rather than working designs for real people. (typical)

There was at least one company in Australia that had a working supercharger for the 1GRFE engine, but the price was nearly 8000 plus shipping from Australia...
