4-R-U-N-N-E-R challenge Colorado

If I lived closer we could do this on Saturday.

I'm not afraid of getting her dirty, or a few scratches, because I know it's going to happen anyway. The only thing preventing me from committing to this is distance and money. Being retired has it's advantages, but dropping a huge chuck of savings on a new truck has curtailed my vacation plans for the foreseeable future.

Thai,why the negative vibes? Give it some time and I don't think we're going to be doing it on snow covered trails next week;I figure we should set a date in May to give a few 5th gens some time to sign up and by May I'm sure we will have a couple or three.

If somebody gave me a 4runner to wheel free of charge I'd take the the lastest and not worry about a scuff or two here or there but having a monthy payment I'd just be more careful.

Ok...that was kinda my point.... So, who is giving out 5th gen 4runner Trail for free??? If so, then please sign me up!! I will take a 3rd gen for free too. But, alas, this is NOT the case, right? (BTW, Toyota needs to make a 4runner Trail Team...so, that a few of us can abuse the 4runner for free!)

I am not being negative...it is just facts. You're asking for 5th gen owners who just bought their 4runner a few months or days ago to take it off-road in a duel as to which is most capable in the mountains?? This will likely involve a lot of rock, mud, etc. stuff. I am stupid crazy, but i am not sure that i would have done this challenge when i first got my 4runner (or G500). And even if one does show up, i am sure that owner will be more concious of damages than a person who is driving a 10-15 year old vehicle. So, right there, the competition or duel is voided.

Now, if this was just a get together (like what we do here in our group), then yeah, it would be fun. But, the fact that this is a challenge (friendly or not) makes it a bit unfair.

So, if anything you just prove the opposite of the point you are trying to make.

Actually, since i bought it new in 2004, it has depreciated like the stock market! It is now worth a whopping $23k (according to Edmunds) and $28k (according to KBB)! :crybaby: Hell, my father's Honda Element is worth more!

I will! I lived in Colorado Springs when I was a kid and my wife wants to see the Garden of the Gods and I want to see that stretch of the 70 that runs along White River again. So yeah, it's not "if" but "when".

My brother just sold (against my objections!) his 2001 Lexus LX470, which he bought new in 2001 for around $70k. He sold it for $12k! And it was an immaculate vehicle...serviced by Lexus throughout its life, been off-roaded 2-3 times over easy terrain. Oh well, sorry about getting off-topic.

Depreciation is an enemy of luxury expensive vehicles....

Not really since KDSS is from factory and is on a stock vehicle. And no, a front LSD or a locker should not be added simply because the 5th gen has A-TRAC. Wheel with what came from factory.

i'm not adding anything. the running boards are from the factory too but everyone agrees that those can be removed.

there would have to be a consensus that the 5th gens would be able to disconnect their sway bars also,

but would they benefit from disconnecting their sway bars like the 3rd gen?

I do agree that removing is different but anyone whether 5th or 3rd gen, gain the same advantage that nullifies each other,

thats an interesting question... We are gonna have to look into this one deeper.

oh i totally agree that 5th gens can do it too if they don't have KDSS. and yes they would benefit. i just wanted to mention this because it gains appox. 3 inches of travel in the front and since the KDSS on the trail does this, i figured both the 3rd gen and the non trail 5th gen should be able to do it too.

but its mainly because i no longer have my swaybar connected and i don't feel like reconnecting it for a offroad test

I don't get a choice to turn KDSS on or off. Like Thai says, it's stock. If that gives the 5th Gen an advantage over a stock 3rd Gen with sway bars connected, that sucks for the 3rd Gen. Disconnecting them is like me removing my front bumper for a better approach angle; it defeats the purpose of a "stock" comparison.

we may need to just open it up to a 4th and 5th gen vs. 3rd gen...

I think we will get some 5th genners, but we may need to add some 4th gen to the team...

kinda seems like we got a bunch of pansy 5th gen owners! heres a hint: you bought the car to drive it! Its gonna get scratched eventually, how about you give it some character instead of "uhh... yeah... It got this scratch at the grocery store, and this scratch at the movie theater!"

Since I seem to be the only 5th Gen owner bothering to reply, here's where I was last Saturday. Notice the lack of pavement, the 85 degree down slope on the other side of the 4Runner, and rather large volcano in the background; that's where we ended up a couple hours later. I would have taken more but I was too busy ducking my new toy under fallen trees and crawling over old dead fall on supposedly "open" forest service roads... I just didn't have time to do all that and take pictures.


and umm... if you are going to call people out, you might want to pick a date so you don't look like an internet "tuff" guy :boxer:
