I’d immediately trade it in for a used or new 4Runner. I do have the same insurance company but have only been involved in a total loss claim where my last car caught fire. But, you do have the ability to continue to state that the vehicle does not meet your standards and have it continue to be repaired.

I don't know that I can take a hit like that financially. If they fix the car all will be well. Guess I will just have to see how things turn out.
I did visit it yesterday. They have both left doors off, the rear panel that was crunched has been cut out and is being replaced. I could detect no smoke smell because it has been open for so long. The guy working on it said that he could not detect any smell either.
They found that the SSO bumper has a small bend in it. Nothing I would have been concerned with as it doesn't even show, but they are replacing it anyway.
The company that is doing the work is a subsidiary of Toyota and the repair is guaranteed for life, so I guess if there are problems with the repair down the road, they will be addressed.
Not much else I can do at this point.:shrug:

Here in East Europe, dealing with insurance companies, most of the time does not pass smoothly, and reimbursement rarely reaches passed 90%.

oh wow, that's terrible you had to go through that. I don't have any personal experience but one thing I remember reading about when dealing with insurance is to make sure they pay you for the amount of "loss"...forgot what the terminology is but basically, after the truck is fixed, if you were to sell it compared to similar non-accident trucks, what is that difference in price. I mention this because it sounds like you would be satisfied if they simply fix the truck but this would help you in case you need to sell it later down the line.
My youngest son had his early 90's Honda Accord stolen 10 years ago. About a week after the Charlotte police called him and said they recovered the car. They told him to go to this towing yard down in the city. When we arrived there were hundreds of cars in this fenced in compound. We go into the office and ask the guy about the stolen Honda. He said stolen Honda? He then pulled out a three inch stack of papers and each page was a stolen Honda. He then gives my son some advice, son buy a Ford, nobody steals a Ford!

Thanks for the update, please keep updated on any new information, especially if you found out how they stole it.
What was the purpose of the theft? Joy riding it seems? But that is sort of an effort, along with all the other thefts, just for joy riding. Too bad they did not total it, I would not want that thing back, they probably abused the hell out it as much as possible.

Also, these idiots just cruise around until they find something to steal? Usually these types scope out specific model cars and such, then make a plan on stealing. Pretty interesting that it was so random like it was.

I don't feel that it was random. In the snow there was one set of tire tracks leading up to my car and one set of footprints from that car to mine. I had parked the car on Wednesday and it was taken Monday early morning. There was nothing else touched on the street and no tracks near any of the other cars parked on the street.
It might have partially been a joy ride, but there was a lot of personal property that was also taken. Based on what little I know about the people involved, stealing cars and the property inside is just what they do. All of the ones that have been connected to this have extensive records including aggravated (weapon involved) auto theft, and with the exception of one (43 years old) they were all under 21.
