2012 Limited - 4 wheel drive question

All,
I purchased a new 2012 limited a month ago and I notice my average gas mileage is just around 16.9 to 17. I have been driving it very easy and never get the RPMS to high(as i am trying to break it in). I have about 700 miles on the truck.

Regarding the 4wd on the 2012 limited - I have a few questions. Is the 4wd always on? Is there a way to run in 2wd mode when on the road? I also notice the truck is sluggish like I am running in some 4 wheel mode.

What I want to understand is there any way to turn off the awd/4wd and just keep it in 2wd and let me switch to 4wd when I want to.(like my old 1998 4runner)

Thanks for the help.
Mike

The answer is NO- you cannot turn the 4WD off. However, I am guessing that the reason for your mpgs is that you truck is still in the break in period. My mpgs increased after the break in period

What Intruder said above is true.

I've had my 12 LE for about two months now, first month I averaged around 19 to 20 MPG (according to the display on the dash).
Now I have about 2300 miles on it and average 21-22 MPG on the way to work 16 miles on the freeway no hills at a constant 65MPH, now if it's windy my truck feels like I'm pulling a trailer, guess that's what you get for being as aerodynamic as a brick Sh#thouse. Give a little more time and you should see more improvment.
As for the full time 4WD, the only thing I notice is that when I lift off the gas and coast, the car slows down a lot quicker.

I have had the same experience with my '12 Limited. I commute 60mi/day (80% highway/20% city) and I avg 19.5-21mpg.

If I am only in city type driving, then my mpg will drop to 16-18mpg.
