4ever4running's 2002 4Runner Build

Everything looks great. I like the stance now :thumb3:

Just a little tip on the shock boots. Cut that dumb zip tie off, move the boot down so it's not all twisty and stuff, and put one of those stainless steel pipe clamps on it. It works a lot better. If you want to be more precise with it, flex out each side and adjust the boot accordingly.

Hope the shrockworks bumper is still on schedule. Can't wait to see it!

Thanks man! I am really liking the raked stance.

The pipe clamps are a really good idea, I will have to pick some up next time I'm at the hardware store. Thanks!

As for the ShrockWorks, as far as I know it is still on schedule. I'm really hoping to get an XRC8 winch and a pair of PIAA 510's and have them ready for the bumper when it comes so I can get everything installed all at once.

What kind of coils were your old coils? Looks good now!

Thanks! I actually don't know what kind of coils they were because they were on the truck when I bought it (the previous owner had the coils in the rear and a random steel spacer in the front). I have never seen anything like them on a T4R before, but maybe someone else might know what they are...

They look like a Downey Offroad coil. I know that Singtoe and APBLM (I think that's his Username) have them as well. I have a Downey coil, but mine are gold. What kind of lift did you get with those? I've only seen a handful of people running Downey coils and no one else running the gold ones like mine.

I was getting right around 3" of lift with them. I know they make both a standard and an HD so that may be the difference between the silver and gold. Are yours HD or standard?

I have no clue if mine are standard or HD, but I got over 3" of lift out of mine and they don't sag very much under load. I wish there was more info on them, but I haven't really found any and I assume mine are the HD version. Mine also have 8 wraps compared to your 10, but it looks like the thickness of the coils is greater on mine. Who knows, but I like them, especially loaded up.

Yeah mine tended to sag under load so that makes me think that they were the standard version. As long as you're happy with yours, that's all that matters. I may just advertise them as standard and see what I can get out of them.

For anyone doing this with a floor jack and jack stands, here is the easiest way that I found to get the axle to flex enough to get the old coils out and the new coils in:
1) Remove the lower shock mount and sway bar end links
2) Using a floor jack (I would recommend at least a 3 ton) positioned at the lowest point on the frame (I used the gas tank skid plate) jack the truck up as high as the jack will go.
3) Place a set of 6 ton jack stands under the frame (I placed the jack stands under the factory trailer hitch) and allow the jack stands to support the frame.
4) Use the floor jack to raise the rear axle
5) Remove the tires
6) Use the jack to raise the rear axle as high as it will go without lifting the frame.
7) Place only one 3 ton jack stand on one side of the axle (I started with the passenger side)
8) Slowly lower the jack (This should cause the axle to flex since only 1 side will be supported)
9) If necessary use coil compressors to remove the old coils and install the new ones (My old coils didn't need to be compressed very much to get them out, but the new ones definitely did)
10) Use the jack to raise the rear axle again
11) Switch the 3 ton jack stand to the other side of the axle and do the same on the other side.
12) Reattach the shocks and sway bar end links and put the tires back on.

thanks for outlining your procedure!

No problem! It took me some time to figure it out so I hope it can help someone save some time.

In other news, I got my extended brake lines installed tonight. I ran into one snag because one of the connections was pretty seized up and wouldn't budge. So, I had to bend the hard line to be able to get enough torque on it to break it free. Other than that everything went pretty smoothly and I will feel a lot better about flexing it out this weekend.

Old vs. new

I also got some pictures of the measurements with the new coils. I have right around 2" of rake.

Your rig has come a long way man. Looks good! I like the new stance with those LX coils.

And I'm super jealous of the Shrockworks!

Thanks man! I am really liking the new stance too.

I am really excited for the Shrockworks, I just wish the wait wasn't so long...

This past weekend I organized a trip to GWNF with a couple other members (ar1five, Rodney Outlaw, and 2003 va runner ltd). The trails aren't very tough so I wasn't able to flex out the LX450 coils but it was still nice to get out and enjoy the weather and scenery. I didn't get many action shots because I was the only one with a camera, but here are the pics that I have.

How do you like your PIAA lights? I'm looking for a set to mount to my bumper when it arrives.

Also how's the height on your cb? I bought a 5' antenna and I'm going to be mounting it to the same spot as you.

Thanks

Hey man, thanks for all the help!

As far as the PIAA lights, I really like them! The ATP pattern is the perfect combination of a driving light and fog lights and provide a ton of light for something that isn't a LED or HD.

I think the antenna height is perfect. It does hit some low hanging trees/branches sometimes, but nothing that the heavy duty spring can't handle.

Thanks man, just what I wanted to hear.

Did you end up deciding on a winch?

James

No problem, always glad to help!

As a matter of fact I just placed my order for an Engo EPF10000S with a synthetic rope. I ordered it from Mudflaps.com and got it for $465 out the door. I appreciate the help and suggestion but the Warn was just a little out of my price range...

I decided to go with the Engo because it is within my price range, has gotten good reviews, and it has the same warranty as Warn (Lifetime warranty for mechanical parts and a 1 year warranty for electrical parts). Now I really can't wait for the Shrockworks!

Cool man, I know how you feel. My addicted shipped out Friday, this winch has been sitting here looking at me for the last two weeks. Killing me!

If I was going to get a tube bumper, I definitely would have gone with the Addicted. Was there any sort of wait time or construction time with the Addicted?

About 2.5 weeks is what he told me, and it ended up being 3 weeks. Not bad at all compared to some manufacturers I've heard of.

James.
