4Lo grinding

I can shift into 4LO just fine, but shifting out of it and back into 4HI is proving to be a real bugger. It's like trying to shift a manual tranny without using the clutch. I basically have to pull it back really fast or it will grind. The vehicle is stopped and in neutral of course. Anyone else have this?

2010 TE and I just passed 10,000kms.

I know in my 3rd gen runner the trick was to do it quick....if u try and move it too slow through the point where the gears start to make contact it will grind....

that could be it....??

had same problem,ie. grinding noises with all the 4wd gears when shifting in/out of my then new 2010 TE ;
head tech at local toy dealer advised me to rather than keep trans in neutral, put it in park;then shift 4wd gears; that did indeed work!
now that truck is broken in (15,000+miles), the noises have disappeared for the most part when i use the 4wd gears while the trans is in neutral or drive!

It was hard shifting from the beginning but after a few shifts it got better for me.
