4R Fails to Start

Just curious, do you tend to overfill at the pump? Did you park your car in a heated garage after filling up?

I do round up to the next dollar even after it clicks to a stop when pumping. Example; Stops at: $36.73, I just round up to $37.00. Also this vehicle is parked outside.

Curious how that might cause any issues? Before longer trips I WAY overfill my tank, until the fuel is just about level with the fill. It is amazing how much more fuel/miles you can squeeze into that tank! Most times I plan to leave the next morning, and have about an 8 mile drive from pump to house, so some fuel is burned but not much. I know you are probably headed for the whole 'expansion' thing but I've never run into issues so far, with the 4R or my last SUV doing this. I do park in a garage, not heated, but stays around 50 in the winter. This is not something I do on a regular basis, maybe 6 times a year or so.

West Virgina has a football team? Lol Btw did you add the Tundra to your family?

Just so some perk doesn't come in and say we're going off topic, the truck started up great this morning and I think that it was a one time hic-up.

We might even get a BCS bid! (Secretly don't want to, but Uconn will likely get demolished worse than we would thus sealing the BE's fate concerning automatic bids).

No Tundra yet. My youngest brother is devising some plan to get dad's F250 so Dad can get a Tacoma and still have access to a truck to pull the horse trailer.

Some vehicles (Toyotas in particular) have an opening on the filler neck that leads to a fuel evap component, the charcoal canister. When fuel fills up to the filler cap, it can go down this opening and, for lack of a better word, drowns the CC. Getting liquid in the CC is bad times and usually requires a replacement unless you want to look at a CEL all the time.

I take offense to that!!!!:jk: UCONN is not just for basketball ya know!!!

Interesting, learn new things every day! I doubt my old 99' Durango had that, will have to hold myself back from temptation from now on I guess.

Like some people have mentioned here, and even though you have already retightened the gas cap with no changes, it could still be the gas cap. I'll tell you what happened to me 2 years ago (2008 4Runner V8), so read further:

I was leaving my garage and driving (in Alaska) at 50 F below zero for about 15 minutes, when suddenly the CEL and VSC lights appeared and the engine started to shake violently and my engine power dropped dramatically. I was at a stop light at the time. When green, I could not drive above 10 mph, and felt like the engine was going to stall any second so I stopped at a parking lot with engine running. After 10 minutes, the shaking disappeared but the CEL and VSC lights remained. It was Sunday, so no tech at the Dealer, so decided to drive home. I retightened the gas cap at home, but the CEL and VSC remained on for 3 days, then suddenly they all disappeared by themselves and everything was back to normal.

May not be your problem, but I would not dismiss the gas cap just yet.

No worries. If you guys get the bid, I'll be cheering for you in the BCS bowl. I just don't have very high hopes for any BE team this year.

Really turning into quite the game now, eh?

Westwind - No problem.

Your picture of the CEL shows all the other lights too, like you have the key half turned and truck not started. Are all warning lights on all the time?

Yes, sorry for the confusion. I didn't fully start the truck, but the CEL and the slip light are the only warning lights on.

Well, I have to wait till next week for my toyota dealership appointment.

UPDATE: So I took a 3 hour drive back home then started the car to go else where and BAM no lights and my ECO feature is back and working properly and no hesitation while accelerating. Just like one of the service managers said; 'rip it open on the highway'. As of now, I have a appointment tomorrow at my local dealer and we'll see what they'll say.

So about a week and a half later, CEL and Slip lights turned off. Also I was told as long as the CEL light wasn't flashing, it was okay to drive.
