4R snow storm ride

Hi 4R family...

I flew into Denver on Tuesday night to see that the city received nearly 13 inches of snow in 2 days with a continual downpour of snow still coming down. I live in Cheyenne, WY so I still had a 110 mile trip home from the airport. Long story short, my usual 90 minute trip took over 3 hours, but my 4R rocked!! The highway was covered with ice and Cheyenne received another 11 inches of snow on my way home, but my 4R trecked through with no problems. On my way home, I counted 6 cars that were stranded on the side of the road. This truck is a beast. you gotta love this truck!!!

Thats awesome, stories like that is what makes me love my vehicle all over again. We don't get that much snow here in Ohio, but I can't wait for the first snow storm just to be able to compare to my old Tacoma.

So, did you find it necessary to drive that distance locked in 4wd? Sounds like the conditions would have called for it. They are predicting an east coast storm for us early tomorrow morning and where I am in NY they are predicting a possible 8-10 inches. That's pretty unusual for this time of the year here as we still have a lot of leaves on the trees. But it will be fun to try out the T4R for the 1st time in snow so I'm looking forward to it.

I have a limited so it's in constant 4wd. I would suggest you put it in 4wd if you have the TE or SR5. I had absolutely no slipping or sliding from the vehicle. Awesome
 
Glad to hear you arrived safely to your destination and giving us your feedback on how 4R performed during harsh weather condition.

I still have to witness driving 4R during winter season and eagerly looking forward to experience how amazing 4R is no matter what the weather condition is :).

Oh, I've always had a 4wd vehicle in this area so driving in heavy snow is second nature here for me, I just haven't had the opportunity with this particular vehicle yet. Thanks for your update. Yes, having the limited you need do nothing but drive and stay on the road. Had you had the part-time 4wd I would have been interested in knowing how often you needed to be shifting in/out, was it completely snow covered for all of those 100 miles, dry areas etc.
 
Got the Bridgestone tires on mine. It didn't like the slush and snow on the ground today. This was only with about an inch or less on the ground since it started snowing here around 1. ABS was kicking in and in some parts I was sliding a bit.
 
I have the stock Yokohama and I was sliding around quite a bit. I thought the tires where bad on my old X5 (Michelin MXV4), but these Yoko Geolander are below the MXV4s. Its odd that I feel more confident driving my old TL with Continental Extreme Contacts than my 4Runner. Also when the TL had Dunlop Wintersport Snow tire, It felt really planted and had excellent stopping ability in the snow/ice. Maybe I will pick up a set of winter tires for the Runner and use the Yoko for other times:shrug:
