4Runner Dedicated Vacuum

I would be very careful on using that vacuum for extended periods on the outlet in the back. Not sure on the inverter specs but the outlet and switch state that it is 400w your vacuum at 9amps (dyson spec) is trying to pull 1100w. A few things can happen. You either blow a fuse, fry your inverter, overheat the wire which potentially can cause fires. When you say it shuts down after awhile it could be a battery safety or an automatic overload safety. A lot of inverters can go more than what they spec for a short duration, but I wouldn't do it alot.

So I purchased this vacuum, the Dyson DC26, off of a daily deal site. Once delivered and unpacked I realize how small this vacuum really is. After a few attempts to use it in the house it gets banished to the garage.

I went to vacuum the 4runner one day and saw the vacuum I spent a decent amount of money on sitting in the garage, so I decided to use it. I took off the handle extension and bam my own personal little vacuum for the 4runner that will plug into the back.

As I am cleaning I notice that the space in the back next to the cubby hole looks like it is the perfect size to hold this vacuum.

And.... It fits perfectly

I also go and keep these 2 attachments in the "secret" storage right behind the second row

The only issues that I have with this setup is that the vacuum is far to expensive just to sit in the back of the vehicle. Even if I got it as a "deal".. Also, My 4runner seems to shut the outlet in the back off after some time of using the vacuum. I assume that this is built in to prevent battery drain. Minor inconvenience.

Overall I am happy with it, it's no 2014 Odyssey vacuum setup, but it works.

There is a noticeable difference in the power of the vacuum when plugged into the car compared to the house, but I've used it to vacuum dog hair out of the vehicle numerous times and it has worked well enough for what I use it for.

I don't know if I would buy the vacuum specifically for this, but since I had already purchased it with no way to return it, I like it.

Nice. Always had good luck with Dyson's. Although, you're right, it's an expensive vacuum to keep in the runner.

Forgive me for being blunt, but why one needs to be driven around back there. Don't you park in the garage where power tools could be kept? Again no offence but it seem little (just tiny bit) OCD :washing:

It is a fantastic vacuum. It worked great in the small rooms, but it was far to small for the whole house. The site I bought it from doesn't exactly allow returns either. It's one of the many daily deal type websites out there.

It's more of a convenience factor than anything. There are obviously people out there that desire this type of thing. Honda has gone and built in a vacuum into the 2014 Odyssey.

I like it, I keep a Black and Decker pivot vac in my 4runner, it runs 12v and has a canister. I have a low noise Shop Vac in the garage.

If you get one, get it at bed bath beyond.... Every few years take it back to BBB and tell them it's losing suction...... Bam! Brand new one.... Just a tip..... We've had a few Dysons and BBB has a great exchange policy

If this is the case then I might reconsider using plugged into the outlet. At that point there is no reason to keep it in the 4runner, and back to the garage it goes.

Are you saying that you had a few vacuums that are supposedly design not to loose suction, actually loose suction or that you just bring it in regardless to get the new one?

Are you saying that you had a few vacuums that are supposedly design not to loose suction, actually loose suction or that you just bring it in regardless to get the new one?

Sounds absurd but yes...Not sure if it's Dyson's policy with BBB specifically but we've had 2 Dysons (1 upright($600), 1 portable($200) ...the upright began to slowly lose suction, we consulted BBB for parts, they said bring it in for a new one.....similar situation with the portable only the charger stand broke, we brought it back....exchanged for new one....great policy!

No worries, I have a nature to be hard headed. I did not want to come across as offensive.

One of the issues business is facing with the new generation is written communication. Either texting or email, communication tends to break down because there is no body language or vocal tones.

That is the direction we are moving so business need to figure out how to accept it and overcome the barriers.

my gf ran a house hold vacuum cleaner via the outlet of my sr5. the vacuum cleaner rated for like 12a and 120v operated for like 15 min at lower suction power before the vacuum cleaner turned off.
My question is did it damage my vehicle in anyway? the vacuum cleaner runs fine at home. I have very little electrical background but realized it's 400 w and the vacuum cleaner is pulling 120v x 12a.
